Free Music Review: The "ULTIMATE" Beatles Tribute Album
Hit: 5 Stars

I've read so many harsh reviews on this website for this album that it's insane.I also ask myself"WHY?"This album is the soundtrack to the 1978 musical film of the same name"Sgt.Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band".In my humble opinion, this album is severely underrated. The majority of these songs were written by Lennon and McCartney. The only exception is Here Comes The Sun which was written by George Harrison.

What Robert Stigwood didn't realize at the time was that he was getting together an album that would be one of the first rock'n'roll tribute albums. When released in 1978,it would quickly climb to #5 in the U.S.A(where it was released on RSO records)and going GOLD and #37 in the U.K.(where it was released on A&M records). The majority of the album would be produced by George Martin(who also produced the majority of The Beatles albums).Maurice White and Jack Douglas were also in tow to produce a couple of songs.

Musically,Peter Frampton lays down some of his best guitar solo's.Robert Ahwai also plays guitar.Wilbur Bascomb plays bass guitar.Bernard Purdie plays drums and percussion.Max Middleton lays down some great keyboard work with George Martin playing additional keyboards. The Tower of Power horn section also lays down some of it's best KILLER horn work.Aiding and abetting are an ensemble of other talented musicians.Jeff Beck,Larry Carlton,Ricky Hitchcock,Ray Russell and Freddie Tackett lay down some guitar work of their own.Clive Chapman and David Hungate(a one time member of TOTO)also play bass guitar.David Paich(another TOTO member)also plays keyboards.David Dowell and Jeff Porcaro(another TOTO member who died at the still young age of 38 in 1992.May he rest in peace)also lay down some additional drum work.Tommy Reilly plays harmonica.Francis Monkman lays down some Moog synthesizer.Ray Cooper(Elton John's percussionist during the 1970's)and Victor Feldman lay down some additional percussion.Altogether under Martin's direction, they make up"The Greatest Rock and Roll Symphony Orchestra" ever assembled.Of course,we can't forget Harry Bluestone and Gavyn Wright who are the orchestra leaders respectively.Frank DeCaro and Martyn Ford are the music contractors.

Vocally,Peter Frampton,The Bee Gees,Aerosmith,Alice Cooper,Earth Wind and Fire(EWF),Paul Nicholas,Billy Preston,Sandy Farina,Dianne Steinberg and Stargard as well as George Burns belt out some of their vocal work.Alice Cooper does a deliciously evil version of Because with the Bee Gees doing background harmonies.EWF,with Maurice White at the helm, deliver a mesmerizing R&B/Soul styled version of Got To Get You Into My Life.Aerosmith, with Jack Douglas co-producing with George Martin, deliver some infectious hard rock on Come Together.Robin delivers a hauntingly poetic vocal on Oh Darling(RSO had so much faith in this song that they released it as a single and voila,it would become a top twenty hit when it reached #15 in the U.S.A.).Steve Martin's vocals on Maxwell's Silver Hammer affirm the novelty status of this song.Dianne Steinberg delivers an angelic vocal on Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds alongside Stargard.Dianne Steinberg returns with a "Cutesy-Bubble Gum" styled duet with Paul Nicholas(Heaven On The 7th Floor) on You Never Give Me Your Money.Sandy Farina also offers some angelic vocals of her own on Here Comes The Sun and Strawberry Fields Forever.Sandy Farina and Frankie Howerd(FH) duet on When I'm Sixty Four.FH will also sing a solo on Mean Mr.Mustard.George Burns even has a vocal moment of his own on Fixing A Hole.Peter Frampton does a fine lead vocal on Golden Slumbers and The Long And Winding Road. The Bee Gees alongside the rest of the musical cast fill up the majority of this album.Altogether, thay create one of the finest moments in pop music. It's also the "ULTIMATE" tribute to the greatest rock and roll influence the world has ever known. It's also the only tribute to the Beatles to own.Whether you are a Beatles or Bee Gees fan or a fan of any of the performers who perform on this album,it must be in your musical library.Because it's"The "ULTIMATE" Beatles Tribute Album!!"No other Beatles tribute album even comes close(Two years prior to this album, the Bee Gees also contributed vocals on another soundtrack of Beatles covers entitled "All This and World War II".They sang Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight,Polythene Pam/She Came In Through The Bathroom Window and Sun King).

Overall,no Beatles or any Bee Gees fan for that matter should be without album. The only Beatles tribute album to really own.

Free Music Review: We hope you will enjoy the show!

The film was a box office disappointment despite its featuring many songs made famous by the Beatles. How could songs written and originally recorded by one of pop/rock's biggest-selling artists inspire a disappointing film? Many Beatles fans prefer the originals over the covers recorded by the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton. I saw the film and loved it as I did hear this album. Many songs appeared on the Beatles' SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND and ABBEY ROAD. This album opens with the title track as did the Beatles' album. Robin Gibb takes the lead as did Paul McCartney with the Beatles' recording. Frampton did a wonderful job with WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS,GETTING BETTER and THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD. Robin's brother Barry Gibb takes the lead on A DAY IN THE LIFE. The song ends with four pianos striking the same major chord in the same octave as did the Beatles' recording. Robin sings the bridge as did McCartney(the late John Lennon sang the lead vocal in the Beatles recording). The only George Harrison composition on this album is HERE COMES THE SUN which is performed by Sandy Farina. Farina performs McCartney's WHEN I'M SIXTY-FOUR with Frankie Howerd. Howerd covers MEAN MR. MUSTARD. GOOD MORNING,GOOD MORNING is performed by Paul Nicholas, who had a hit in 1977 entitled HEAVEN ON THE 7TH FLOOR. Steve Martin performs MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER. Earth,Wind & Fire had a hit cover,GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE. Farina also performs STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER,one of Lennon's best-loved compositions. There's also another Lennon composition,COME TOGETHER covered by Aerosmith which would be a hit for them also. Michael Jackson covered the song for his 1995 HISTORY album. Billy Preston covers GET BACK. Preston worked with the Beatles in 1968 and '69. The other songs are excellent. This album was originally released on the RSO(Robert Stigwood Organization) label, which was the Bee Gees'. Frampton recorded on A&M and Martin recorded on Warner Bros. RSO was sold to its sister label,Polydor,in or around 1984. Both labels were divisions of PolyGram.

Free Music Review: Not the Beatles, but still good!
Hit: 5 Stars

I love this album, I know it's nowhere near as good as the originals by the Beatles, but it still rocks! "Come Together" is of course the rockin' legendary cover of the (of course) superior Beatles song. I love "Because" (Alice Cooper) "Fixing A Hole" (George Burns!!) and "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (Steve Martin!) simply because those songs are fun little, not-to-be-taken-serious songs. "A Day In The Life" is awesome, and I dislike the Bee Gees, but I Think they rocked on this album. "Sgt. Pepper" sounds almost exactly like the original (when my dad came to my dorm and I was listening to it, he thought it WAS the original) and you can really only tell that it's not the Beatles when Peter Frampton, not Ringo Starr comes in for "With A Little Help From My Friends." "Oh! Darling" "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Here Comes The Sun" are not very much like the originals, but still very enjoyable, "Got To Get You..." is very funky bt still great, and "Get Back" is a very fun song. My only complaints are that Peter Frampton sings pretty high in most of his songs (I want the Peter from "Do You Feel.." and "Show Me The Way") and that they don't have covers of "Something" "Eleanor Rigby" "Hello Goodbye" "Helterskelter" "Octopus' Garden" "I Am The Walrus" and "In My Life" on here, but I guess that's asking a little much (after all, those weren't in the movie, but they sure should have been!) All in all, a fun, sometimes rocking, sometimes soulful, sometimes funky, and sometimes bluesy album. I love the Beatles and I love this album.

Free Music Review: The greatest album ever... and the film was awesome too!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Only elitist snobs with shallow and unrefined musical tastes could seriously take shots at this masterpeice. This was Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees at their finest - a moving and tearful tribute to The Beatles. Some of the terribly uninformed reviews that have criticized both the movie and the soundtrack are stunningly ill-informed hatchet jobs that do violence to the incredible accomplishment that this CD represents.

You will love it and listen to it over and over again. Heck, it will probably make you want to purchase the movie (and I hope you do - it is just as fabulous and fun as the music is). This album (and movie for that matter)is destined to be a collectors item and revered as the greatest musical triumph ever.

Don't be dissuaded by unschooled lunkheads who have written unfavorable reviews here and make habit of confusing a Battleship with a row boat. If BS were electricity, they'd be power plants. There is a difference between Dom Perignon and Boone's Farm; too bad the critics here (the Boone's Farm crowd) haven't figured that out yet. They wouldn't know gourmet if you handed them a Best of Julia Child video.

Quit reviewing great CD's (especially great ones like this) and stick to front end alignments in your driveway!

Buy it; NOW!!! You can thank me later.

Free Music Review: Boy, was THIS a pleasant surprise!
Hit: 5 Stars

As a life long Beatle fan, I recall still being in line to see Sgt. Pepper the film. I'll never forget seeing this cute girl in the group in front of me, who now is the wife of one of my oldest school chums! That was the best part of my experience in seeing the film which rightfully so fell flat.

I may have had the soundtrack back then but quicly disgarded it. For some reason though, I picked up this cd recently and had a whole different reaction.

I have always enjoyed Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees and now, years removed, I am able to apprciate their work on this cd as well as many others. Sure their are a few "dogs" here - Steve Martin singing "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" to name the biggest, but they are very few. When one doesn't compare this to the story of the film, the track stand out as nice albiet different versions. I especially enjoy Here Comes the Sun sung by the actress who played "penny Laine" in the film.

If you love the Beatles music, there are enough songs on this double cd to make it worth owning.
