Free Music Review: No "commercial christian" appeal...and thats a good thing!

A cool sound, deep meanings, and no "commercial christian" appeal...and that's a good thing!
The first four songs really capture the heart of the album. "Revolution" meets you at the church when you least expect it. You least expect it because it is a catchy and talented song with a tasty Spanish horn and guitar twist on the old DC Talk Jesus Freak mindset; however much better done musically with absolutely no commercial appeal produced into it. This is what it is. No regrets. I wonder on some level if the flair for such musical Spanish influence was because a tasteful and talented brass is great(even so far as a short hint of a funky bass line in the end) fit the lyrics "...I will never say I am sorry" musically. After all its a declaration song opening the album. Maybe, maybe not. I have known some artists who are talented enough to put that layer into a work like this. And I stress talented.
I digress...
If you stop and listen to the words on the first song you will see what I mean when I say it meets you at the church. A proud proclamation of a quiet grace received while at church. The meaning starts there, however you will find yourself blaring it on the car stereo on a road-trip though.
"Innocence" haunts you with a guitar that over shadows the play on words that will have you realizing the perspective switch long after the fabulous guitar solo bridge. You really need to listen twice before you catch the lyricists intentions because the song rocks. Is that too 80's to say?
If you have not been pulled in by "Wait" you don't like good music, let alone good rock. Older generations understand that when you say rock, you don't have to throw out adjectives like meaning, purpose, heart, soul, imagination, poetic, or boxes(lack of them). You certainly dont want to think of long hair or scary vocals. Does McCartney or Lennon come to mind when you think of Rock? If your old enough you will know this complement is seeped in a time in history where rock was born. But it was also defined in a way oft forgotten. These men created a marriage of rock and meaning. Youth and passion. ...and the acceptance of songs with different styles from album to album, let alone song to song. That's daring. I will be honest - no, I didn't like all of their stuff, so I am not 'trying' to find a connection. But in the history of music, let alone rock and youth, its the only honest and comparable description of what is going on Red Revolution. So when you hear the passion in "Wait", understand there is so much going on here. Dare I say, if you have not been pulled into this album by the time you get to track 4 ... wait(pun intended)....and you will see. On a serious note, its unfortunate that such a comparison will fall short for so many because of the Christian life truths intertwined, but a fair and true one.
By this point the crescendos of "Wait" have you pulled into a musical feast that in itself pulls on the chords of the heart. If I am too serious here, you must understand, good music touches the soul. And this is great music. Don't agree? "When God Ran" will have you crying, as long as no one is looking. It did me. True Christian music is really based on an experience. Not a religion. The Christian experience. Its undeniable(and even theological, now I am scaring you). What really makes worship music is the emotional tie between the spoken truth of Gods word in song and the undeniable connection of our personal experience expressed in songs affirming our experienced truth of God, and he in our lives. Its not a style. Its not a tempo. Its not even something you may find in "church". Sometimes real worship, unfortunately for an artist, never finds its way into a church. But that's another debate. A person who writes real worship doesn't write it to sing at a church.
You feel it like sucker punch to the gut. Like when you look at one you love and realize, after a period of time that passes in a blink....how much you are loved...how much love you actually have within oneself to give...and how lucky you really are. Like I said - sucker punch.
Now, listen to "When God Ran"....
To do this song, let alone this album justice, I should end this review here. One has to experience this album on a rainy weekend morning with a great performance class pair of headphones, a fabulous cup of coffee or tea, and an empty room....so you can be free to let your soul fly with the music, your feet dance at times, and if your like me...even tears fall once or twice.
I will let you listen to the rest of the album and write your own part B to this review. After all, if you really get into the lyrics...this album is about you.
