Free Music Notes for Shakespeare in LoveFree Music Review: A complex expression of deep emotional content Hit: 4 Stars
Like the film, the soundtrack tells a deeply emotional story with wit and charm. Rather than leaving you humming a pop tune (leave that for the vast majority of other soundtracks), it succeeds in creating a complex multi-level mood; both romantic and triumphant. This is subtle music, which manages to get under your skin amidst all the loud cacophany we are subjected to by the usual entertainment fare. One could almost catagorize this as a bridge between the sugary sentimentality of the familiar, and the sometimes cold intellectual approach of artists such as Philip Glass. Don't look for period music, here. Although there are certainly touches throughout, they are sprinkled in delicately with the occassional instrument or two joining the wider orchestra. This soundtrack succeeds, as does the film, in bridging the centuries.
Free Music Review: Warbeck meets Shakespeare Hit: 4 Stars
"Shakespeare in Love," a witty tale of love and theater in Elizabethan England, was one of the most delightful films of the late 1990s. This CD contains the film's musical score, composed by Stephen Warbeck.I think that this music works better as a backdrop to the film, rather than as a stand-alone composition; I found much of the CD to be somewhat forgettable on its own. Still, there are some genuinely memorable tracks, and the score overall is quite pleasant. The opening track (appropriately called "The Beginning of the Partnership") has a lovely, romantic sweep to it. And "The De Lesseps' Dance" is a wonderful piece that evokes an Elizabethan social gathering. If you are a fan of the film, give the CD a try.
Free Music Review: Another wonderful outing for Warbeck Hit: 4 Stars
Stephen Warbeck's score is magnificent; the only problem, albeit relatively small, I have with it is that he neglects to develop the sweeping opening theme, found in track 1, and to a lesser degree track 7, further. I kept waiting for it to reappear and go somewhere new and exciting, only to be somewhat let down at the end of the CD. Once past this, however, and in all other respects, the score makes for wonderful and engaging listening. I hear new subtle nuances every time I play it. I recommend it highly.
Free Music Review: Great Soundtrack Hit: 4 Stars
Well, I've never been able to comment with any soundtrack before. And I think this one's great, very mellifluous voices that's suiting to the movie as well. Hope you will continue to produce great song such this...
Free Music Review: If the movie captured your heart so will the music! Hit: 4 Stars
Absolutely magnificant! I am not even a fan of classical music but I adored this wonderful blend which took me right back to the movie itself and into the arms of gorgeous Joseph Fiennes!
