I am from the Philippines and decided to buy this US Special edition because of its bonus contents not present in the Philippine copy I already have.
With She Wolf, Shakira has concreted her reputation of being able to cross genres and be very good at it. She had been to rock, pop, even reggae, bossa, acoustic, etc. Now, she is into the electronic beat in music, though she had electronic-sounding songs in the past, e.g. Timor and Las de la Intuicion, She Wolf is the full blown electronic album.
However teh genre shift, the Shakira everybody knows is still in its best with all those fresh metaphors of lyrics and word combination.
The title track, She Wolf is a very dancey musical treat with all the basses and the truck-like beeps in addition to Shakira's own howling and panting. It suits well on full blast speakers and the clubs and parties will never be sedentary with this song played around.
Men in this Town is another song dancers just cant get enough of and Mon Amour contains that "rockera" spirit Shaki always has. Gypsy is the only mellow song in the album but has its own strengths as another pop treat conducive to musings and reminiscing. Did it Again is quite an emphatic song that will never be out of place on the break dancing floor. Why Wait reminds one of Eastern Europe and the Middle East with the exotic sound it contains. Long Time and Good Stuff also contain those world music elements Shakira songs have been known for and she additionally plays with the pace of singing from singing fast and then slowing down, which is also present in some other songs. Spy, a collaboration with Wyclef Jean is the song friends can play and sing during music jams and when having a good time.
Additional track, Give it Up to Me, a collaboration with Lil Wayne is a hip hop sound that has a very naughty feel to it. Did it Again Remix has Kid Cudi's rap lines and occasional hums throughout the song. The T4 Live version of Gypsy has Shakira playing the harmonica in the beggining and in the end of the song, which cannot be heard on the album version, while the live T4 She Wolf version is just as teasing as the studio record.
This is definitely a worthy buy. The She Wolf Shakira may sound a bit different from her previous works but that defines a good artist, one who can shift and change and still be at his or her best. Besides, the She Wolf Shakira is not totally different, just a little experimental, and still the very great artist--Shakira!

Shakira's brand new English album She Wolf is an uptempo pop album. It is all about synthesizers and electronical concepts, all mixed with the world sounds that we are used to from Shakira, sounds from countries like India, the Middle East and her home country of Colombia. She Wolf features a predominantly English track list with a follow up album of new and unique repertoire in Spanish to come in 2010. The title track "She-Wolf"; boasts the infectious and energizing sound that made Shakira a household name, with a slightly more dancey/ electronic beat (about 125 beats per minute).
