Free Music Notes for Shania Twain - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: The Album's Name Says It All---Greatest Hits Hit: 5 Stars
I haven't always been a huge fan of Shania Twain...I collected every other album or so, and listened to them occasionally. However, when my parents gave this CD to me for my birthday, I suddenly found myself with my headphones glued to my ears, listening to Shania nonstop. 19 out of the 21 hits are pure gold, and they are so varied in style that there is a song for every country music fan. One of the biggest plus-es of the album is that the songs are spread around. For instance, the album starts out with a tender ballad, then goes on to a dance-able anthem. On one of Ms. Twain's last albums, "Up!", she put all of the upbeat songs on one CD, and the slower songs on the second. The community of fans was split in half; some were pleased with the upbeat/downbeat division, and other fans wished that they had been mixed up amongst each other. I was more of the latter, so this CD was a great step up for Shania. Now, I'll give my reviews of each song:
1. Forever and For Always 8.5/10---This song has a beautiful melody, vocals, and message, but the lyrics get a bit recycled.
2. I'm Gonna Getcha Good! 15/10---One of my favorite Shania songs. It's upbeat, dance-able, and very fun to listen to and sing along with. The lyrics are simple, and yet very powerful ("I've already planned it/ Here's how it's gonna be/ I'm gonna love you and you're gonna fall in love with me")
3. Up! 7/10---The melody and vocals are good, but the lyrics are less than impressive: "Even my skin is acting weird/ I wish that I could grow a beard" o_O
4. Come on Over 9/10---Fun, carefree, and lighthearted, Shania is obviously having a good time as she sings this.
5. Man! I Feel Like A Woman! 15/10---Need I say more? This excellent song has proven to be an anthem for women everywhere and a great karaoke number. Just TRY to listen this through without singing, or even humming, along.
6. That Don't Impress Me Much 10/10---This is the dance version. This beat is great and the lyrics are well-written, and Shania has fun with it.
7. From This Moment 10/10---This song, which is super-popular for weddings, is beautiful, sweet, and very touching. The instrumentals are stirring, and Shania's voice soars.
8. Honey, I'm Home 5/10---This is definately not one of Ms. Twain's better songs. The lyrics are downright awful, and the beat is not very fitting. For instance, it goes from the foot-stomping aura of Queen's "We Will Rock You," then the chorus has a honkey-tonk vibe.
9. You're Still the One 10/10---A very beautiful and haunting ballad about eternal love (awww).
10. Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You) 6/10---The melody is very catchy, but the lyrics are kind of repetative. Also, the one verse "Don't freak out until you know the facts/ Relax...Max!" throws me off every time I hear it.
11. Love Gets Me Every Time 8/10---Catchy, carefree, and fun. However, the lyric "I gol' darn gone and done it" is kind of weird...Oh well.
12. No One Needs To Know 10/10---I really like this song about a secret crush. Very country-ish, it is well-written and catchy.
13. You Win My Love 9/10---This song has a great tune. I can't find much wrong with it.
14. (If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here! 8/10---This sultry song about men who carelessly pick up women has a great beat and lyrics, but it sounds like Shania's trying to make her voice sexy, and it doesn't really give the sound she was obviously going for (It sounds like she's drunk, actually).
15. The Woman In Me (Needs The Man In You) 9/10---Slow and beautiful, but again, Shania is trying to make her voice sound sexy...*YOU SOUND FINE NATURALLY, SHANIA!* However, the song is one of my favorites.
16. Any Man of Mine 15/10---The song that jump-started Ms. Twain's career. She shines, and was apparently having fun when she recorded this. It'll have you singing along in no time.
17. Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under? 10/10---Catchy song about an adulterous lover. Shania's showing her country roots here, and she sounds great.
18. Party For Two 10/10---This version with Mark McGrath is super dance-able, and the music and the two singers are great, but I like the one with BillY Currington better.
19. Don't! 8/10---This slow ballad is very sweet and moving. The chorus is very haunting, and the backup singers do their job nicely.
20. Party For Two 15/10---Who care's if Billy Currington sounds a little flat on his first few notes? He and Shania are exploding with chemistry, and that makes the song great. You'll want to jump up and dance with this song.
21. I Ain't No Quitter 0/10---Oh my God. Shania, what were you thinking when you recorded this? Just ten seconds into the song, I was wanting to you to "Quit" singing and shut up.
Bad songs aside, if you're a Shania fan, or just a country music fan, you do not want to miss this album. Buy it today!
Shania Twain - Greatest Hits PosterThis 21-track Album Will Consist of Twain's Chart-topping Hits, as Well as Three Brand New Songs. Twain Has Celebrated 16 Top Ten Career Hits, 10 of Those of which have Reached the Top Five and Eight of Those of which Secured the Elite No. One Spot. With her Most Recent Album Up! Earning Certification of 10x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, Twain is the Only Artist in History to have Three Consecutive 10x Platinum Certified Albums. The Other Two Being "The Woman in Me" (12x Platinum) and "Come on Over" (19x Platinum). Shania Twain--recluse, happily married, mother of one--has sold more than 40 million albums with flirty, hook-laden, beat-heavy, country-tinged pop that has all the subtlety of a musical wet T-shirt contest, yet is as irresistible as Swiss chocolate and Pringles. There are a few heartfelt, moon-in-June love ballads on this generous and long-awaited 20-song collection, which includes three new songs along with all the predictable chart-toppers and near-chart-toppers. But it's the mostly nonstop, uptempo booty-shakers--too often with garish overproduction and vapid lyrics--that, for the unconverted, tend to run together after a while. No doubt, this relentlessly upbeat retrospective will keep Twain's millions of fans jumping up and down on their sofas. --Bob Allen Recommended Contemporary Crossover LeAnn Rimes, This Woman | Faith Hill, Faith | Dixie Chicks, Top of the World Tour | LeAnn Rimes, Blue | Faith Hill, Breathe | Martina McBride, Martina |
