Free Music Notes for Shania Twain - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: A great collection of fun music! Hit: 5 Stars
Shania Twain is classified "Country" in most ways. Her newer music really isn't country to me, however. I love both her old and new music, however different the two may be. This album is wonderful.
Forever and For Always- I like this song, but it's a bit cheesy. It's kind of overdone, but it is nice and pretty. 8/10
I'm Gonna Getcha Good!- This is a cute song, with powerful lyrics and a fun tune. 9/10
Up!- The lyrics to this song are less than great, but the tune is fun to dance to, and it's an all around good song. 8/10
Come On Over- I'm not sure why this song was made a single. It's not that great. The words are forced and the tune is just boring. 6/10
Man! I Feel Like a Woman!- Everyone knows and loves this song. It's a feel- good, girl- power anthem, and I love it! 10/10
That Don't Impress Me Much- This song is great. It's definitely one of the best Shania songs of all time. The lyrics may be a little off, but it's still a good song. 10/10
From This Moment On- This is a great ballad about everlasting love. It has a great message, and the tune is lovely. 10/10
Honey I'm Home- A lot of people don't like this song, but I think it's cute. It really has no meaning, but it's a fun song. 9/10
You're Still the One- This, in my opinion, is the best Shania song of all time. It's very simple and relaxed, but it's a great song. 10/10
Don't Be Stupid(You Know I Love You)- This is a good song about putting trust in your significant other. It has cool strings. 9/10
Love Gets Me Every Time- This is another great Shania song. It's irresistable and fun. 10/10
No One Needs To Know- I loved this song at first listen. The tune is simple, and kind of repetative, but it's an addictive song. 10/10
You Win My Love- I haven't really listened to this song that much, but it's okay. 8/10
(If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here!- This is one of my favorite songs on the CD. It's strong and to- the- point. 10/10
The Woman In Me(Needs the Man in You)- Meh. It's okay. Too slow for my tastes, a little. 7/10
Any Man of Mine- This is a good song, about how your man had better treat you right. I like it, especially the tune. 9/10
Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?- This is a fun song to get up and dance to. It has good lyrics. 9/10
Party For Two(With Mark McGrath)- I love this song, but I don't like this version. It's too poppy. 7/10
Don't!- I really don't see what's so great about this song. It's sort of repetative, and the lyrics aren't all that great. 6/10
Party For Two(With Billy Currington)- This is a cute song about...well...a party for two! It has flirty lyrics, and a great tune. 10/10
I Ain't No Quitter- This song is pointless and horrible. I don't like it at all. 4/10
Free Music Review: Great Hits collection, although missing quite a few. Hit: 5 Stars
While I must say the entire album is 5 star material, I'm still feeling a bit odd having a Shania Greatest Hits album; afterall, whenever I've bought one of her albums, it always felt like a Greatest Hits compilation given the number of singles released + fan favorites not released. She truly is a great artist.
One note I must make is that while I had always hoped for a Hits cd, I was hoping it wouldn't come until after her next album. But instead, this one comes a bit early of that and on the downside, also fails to showcase any of her debut album, which I never had plans on buying in hopes that a GH album would showcase it. Afterall, the debut was always thought of as "obsolete" compared to the albums that followed and only worth the singles. Why aren't they here? "What Made You Say That" and "Dance With The One That Brought You" are only 2 tracks.
Nonetheless, the album is simply stunning and features 4 new tracks to go in addition to any fan's collection. "Party For Two" is possibly one of Shania's all-time greatest (although my favorite single by her, "When You Kiss Me," was ommitted..hmm...) and the other new tracks sound great as well.
And to those that say outside the 4 new tracks everything is what they already have on their albums: WRONG. The cd opens up with the POP RADIO MIX of "Forever And For Always," which is edited differently from any of its (3) album versions. Following it comes the video version of IGGG, which sounds somewhere inbetween the country & pop LP versions, but was never exactly released. Also not on her other albums are this albums versions of "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "From This Moment." "That Don't" comes in the form of a dance mix, while FTM comes in its SOLO (rather than duet) form, and rather than being in the pop mix of THAT that's found on the International Version, it comes with something different to the beat.
This album isn't exactly going to "steal your money" or make "all the other Shania albums obsolete" or anything, with it having 8 tracks that don't appear on her other albums, and it missing several of her singles. Megahits "She's Not Just A Pretty Face," "God Bless The Child," "You Got A Way," "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is (Anymore," and "Ka-Ching!" don't make any appearances here, and neither do the flop singles "When You Kiss Me," "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing," or "Thank You Baby!". Buy it, you won't regret it.
If that doesn't help you make your decision, the artwork has lots of new pictures of her, PLUS the lyrics to every one of the songs included and a picture from each video with it. Oh, and did I mention it comes with a $5 coupon for the Scent Stories player?
=D
Free Music Review: It's About Time! Hit: 5 Stars
I have waited years for this album. I can't think of a person who deserves a greatest hits album more than Shania does. She has probably changed the face of music more than any other female artist since Madonna.
I have been a fan from the beginning. I even own her first cd. The reason I love Shania so much is because she has made great music that's fun to listen to no matter what mood I'm in. I bought this cd even though I already own most of the songs because now I have most of my favorites all on one cd. And when I say most of my favorites, I mean it. There are 17 hits on this cd, plus the 4 new songs, giving us a grand total of 21 songs. For such a low price I think that is more than a bargain- it's a steal. Most of the songs come from Come on Over, which is no surprise because that cd was churning out hits more than 2 years after its release. It didn't sell 19 million copies in the US for nothing. The other big chunk of songs comes from her other smash, The Woman In Me. 3 songs come from her most recent album, Up!, and no songs come from her self-titled debut, which is a shame because those songs would have finally been given a chance to be heard by a bigger audience.
As for the songs themselves, they sound better than they ever have before. This cd gets bonus points for including some of her harder to find versions of her smash songs, like the pop versions of From This Moment On (which sounds terrific) and That Don't Impress Me Much (not as good as the original but I'm glad I now have it). Of course, some of my favorites are missing. Home Ain't Where His Heart Is Anymore and the radio version of God Bless the Child should be on here, but I can't complain because I don't know what should be removed to make room for those songs since Shania has had several big hits.
The new songs are also a highlight. Both versions of Party For Two are here, and the country version is much better because I think Shania and Billy Currington sound great together. The pop version is OK, though. I Ain't No Quitter should be a favorite of her country fans. It' very catchy. The standout is Don't, the best ballad I've heard all year. Shania's voice sounds so great here and there is no reason why this shouldn't be a smash if it is released to radio. It is already one of my favorite Shania songs ever.
If you are a fan of Shania, you should get this album. Her voice and vocal range are superb and her music never gets stale. Shania's music transcends all genre boundaries and sounds great in any format. It's got a good mix of country and pop songs and it is already one of my favorite albums of 2004, and I've only had it for a couple of days.
Free Music Review: Serves Up All the Memorable Classics and More Hit: 5 Stars
Although the titles of many of her hits reflect that Shania Twain may be a woman who is inclined to spontaneous fits of shouting, her "Greatest Hits" chronicles in a counter-clockwise motion her commercial breakthrough with her swashbuckling 1995 sophomore album "The Woman In Me" through to her present-day status as country pop's premiere feminist phenom.
Slinkily beginning with the biggest hit from 2002's multi-platinum, "Up!," "Forever and For Always" glistens as brightly as ever. The ideal sappy mainstream ballad has just enough punch to protect it from elevator muzak status, despite the fact that adult contemporary has played it to the point of excruciating superfluity. Its overexposure, however, has allowed radio programmers another option besides her mega-hits "You're Still the One" and "From This Moment On," from 1997's earth-shaking "Come On Over, recently certified 20x platinum between both its pop and country versions stateside. Initially having started out as little songs-that-could, both tunes can now be recited nearly verbatim by the majority of the population with even a slight knowledge of pop culture.
Of course, the backbone of Twain's fame has been her in-your-face uptempo tracks with their strong themes of feel-good female empowerment. Who could ever forget the confident, sexy image of the singer/songwriter on her motorcycle in the video for the ever-catchy "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" video or the absolutely hilarious arena-ready rock of "That Don't Impress Me Much" complete with friendly jabs at Brad Pitt and rocket scientists. Did that song give you a good laugh? If so, you must check out the lesser-known hit "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" which good-naturedly plays off a stereotype of male infidelity.
Although it misses out on including "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing" and other excellent tracks from "Up!" which surfaced on public radar, three new recordings make up for the loss. The gratifying if not slightly silly "Party For Two" is featured in two versions, one featuring Mark McGrath and the other Billy Currington, the latter being the superior. A pleasing warm-bath ballad and a twangy upbeat number come with "Don't!" and "I Ain't No Quitter" respectively. Both songs are leftovers from "Up!".
Despite the fact that fellow artist Steve Earle called her the "highest paid lap dancer in Nashville," Shania Twain has confirmed herself a definitive household name with many memorable and classic hits synonymous with her name. "Greatest Hits" serves up every one of them and more.
Free Music Review: Shania forever! Hit: 5 Stars
At the outset, I believe it's only fair to divulge that, as a general rule, I don't care for Country music. That said, I really "dig" Shania Twain's hybrid of Rock & Country. In my book she's one of the most talented female artists around in this day & age!
The present album demonstrates her impressive range of skills in both types of songs as well as vocal abilities. Rock ballads such as FOREVER AND FOR ALWAYS & FROM THIS MOMENT ON are popular @ weddings. On the flip-side, songs such as WHOSE BED HAVE YOUR BOOTS BEEN UNDER? and HONEY I'M HOME are fun little jaunts.
UP! is a good song to listen to when you're feeling blue as it's meant to lift your spirits & convince you that this crazy life is not going quite so badly as you're inclined to think it is. It also "moves" nicely and reminds me of something that you'd find on A Collection of Roxette Hits: Their 20 Greatest Songs!. That's a good thing in my book!
I can't force myself to believe that Shania resembles the persona in ANY MAN OF MINE. Rather, it seems to me that Shania is poking fun (in a tounge-in-cheek sort of way) at all of the women wandering around who epitomize what Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally would categorize as "High Maintenance."
As a guy, I have to admit the obvious: Shania Twain is absolutely gorgeous. That said, I would've never bought her album on this fact alone. Unlike other stunning pop stars such as Britney Spears, Shania has an amazing talent & has some vocal nuances that few sopranos can imitate.
While I could be way off the mark, Shania's personality seems to shine though her songs. She seems like someone who would be great to go to a theme park & have fun with - and not JUST because she's a looker! That's my take, anyway.
So, if you're looking for a great string of songs written in a Rock / Country hybrid style, I'd can't recommend this album highly enough. The fact that the songs are sung by a lovely human being is an added plus!
