Free Music Review: Brilliant contemporary country album
Hit: 5 Stars

Following the failure of her major label debut album, Shania opted for a different sound for this follow-up album. Matt Lange became her producer. They each wrote one song alone and co-wrote the others together. The album has a sound that appeals to a lot of people who don't normally like country music, yet this is still a country album at heart and there are at least a couple of songs here that would sit comfortably on a traditional country album, as I will explain.

There are several high quality ballads, particularly Home ain't where his heart is anymore (the story of love gone sour after several happy years) and the heartfelt title track. Nevertheless, the tracks that I like best are the two up-tempo songs that set Shania on the road to superstardom - Any man of mine (in which Shania explains exactly what she expects of her man, but she sings it in a fun way so you know she's not quite as demanding as she at first seems) and Who's bed have your boots been under (another fun song, this time questioning the faithfulness of her man), both of which remind me of the kind of song that Loretta Lynn was so good at in the late sixties and early seventies. Indeed, the song that follows those two, If you're not in it for love I'm outta here (doubting the motives of a potential suitor), would also have suited Loretta in her prime.

There are, of course, many other fine songs on this album, which sold well over ten million copies in America. It was also my first Shania album although the British public generally didn't take much notice of her until the release of Come on over - and even then, after it had been remixed for the European market.

My favorite Shania album is her flop (untitled) debut album, but this one and Come on over are both masterpieces in their own ways. These three albums are very different from each other and you certainly need eclectic musical tastes to enjoy all three.

Free Music Review: SHANIA IS GOOD NO MATTER WHAT
Hit: 5 Stars

An artist always broadens their horizons. Shania clearly is an artist who stays in her roots but also knows how to be mainstream which is clearly her choice.I don't think Shania is another BRITNEY SPEARS nor the BRITNEY SPEARS of country because she does not use her sex appeal to sell her music. She clearly is sexy and knows when to be sexy but she is not always wearing something or showing the attitude of being a sexual artist nor uses sexuality to sell her music and really no country artist especially females do not use their bodies to sell their music.Shania just knows how to work the ropes and I think people don't understand that. She makes wise decisions in her career beginning with 'THE WOMAN IN ME'. This cd is what introduced the world to SHANIA TWAIN.It isn't like 'COME ON OVER' or 'UP!'. Its a country, home-feel kind of cd but has the typical attitude of Shania which is seen in her other records as well.I can't say though that the album 'SHANIA TWAIN' is a typical Shania record since it isn't her own work except for Track5 on the album.'The Woman In Me' is a wonderful cd and offered various singles such as: ANY MAN OF MINE, WHOSE BED HAVE YOUR BOOTS BEEN UNDER, IF YOU'RE NOT IN IT FOR LOVE( I'M OUTTA HERE), THE WOMAN IN ME( NEEDS THE MAN IN YOU). Its a very instrumental and fun cd with good songs some rock-ish and others country-ish and it mixes well.I personally believe her other cds should not be trashed simply because you don't hear much of a country sound, what counts is that she knows how to make a good cd and she knows how to make herself heard even if CMT and other TELEVISION NETWORKS do not air her music often.ITS THE FANS THAT COUNT! CUZ WE LOVE SHANIA!!!! AND THIS ALBUM ROCKS!!!!!

Free Music Review: Shania's best album
Hit: 5 Stars

This really is Shania's best album. We get a variety of songs, some are fun, some are serious, but the main thing is it's country. At least more country than her COME ON OVER or UP! albums. The album set a change in Nashville that was felt for a few years, whereas now we are seeing a trend of country music going back to its roots a bit more. However her image and sound really shook up Nashville and turned them on their ear. The album sold millions and won numerous awards. It deserves those honors though. The album is really quite good. The album spawned off 8 singles, many of them were big hits. The album opens with the ballad "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is (Anymore)" which is one my favorites, a song about a man who's heart is not in the marriage anymore. Of course people know the hits "Any Man Of Mine", "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under" and "If You're Not In It For Love (I'm Outta Here!)", they are all fun uptempo songs that are signature songs for her. The title track is my favorite song on here, if not my favorite Shania Twain song of all time. It's just a beautiful ballad. "You Win My Love" was a big hit and its just another fun song, I like that one a lot. The songs that weren't singles are quite good, like "If It Don't Take Two", which is a nice uptempo which could have been a single. "Raining On Our Love" and "Is There Life After Love" are nice country ballads. The album closes with "God Bless The Child", the original acapella version, I like the remixed version better. Overall it truly is a landmark album for her and really quite good.

Free Music Review: Spunkiest Cowgirl of Any County
Hit: 5 Stars

Shania Twain is thoroughly entertaining. She bridges the sexes and most major categories of pop music with her spirited vocals and spunky attitude. On her smash 'Come on Over' she conquered country, pop, and rock with numerous fusions that made a fun ride. Truer to country, this previous effort is even better overall. Her tender moments resonate well, and the progressive numbers do what no one has done before. She does to "hot new country" what Patsy Cline did to country in its modern beginning.

Her tenderness is done with finesse on her opener, "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is (Anymore)," but is even bettered on "Raining on Our Love" Then she really kicks it into gear with a fun gallop on "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under," "You Win My Love," and "No One Needs to Know". But, if these numbers don't win you over, her smash hit, "If You're Not in It for Love (I'm Outta Here)" is worth the price of the CD. With vocals that ably fill the ebb and flow of the spunkiest country song--possibly ever conceived--the band actually fills up in a big way what even her voice can't even do. (Her back-up band is particularly accomplished on this album.)

There isn't a bad song on 'Woman in Me,' and, while 'Come on Over' is the favorite commercially (and maybe even more entertaining) 'The Woman in Me' showcases women's country where no one has tread before.

Free Music Review: "Outstanding"
Hit: 5 Stars

"The Woman In Me" became the album that made Shania Twain a superstar and a household name. Released originally in 1995, sales for the CD were mild when the first single "Who's Bed Have Your Boots been Under?" was sent to radio. However, when the second single came out called "Any Man of Mine", radio programmers played the song because of huge requests and suddenly Shania had her first #1 song, with "The Woman In Me" album going all the way to #1. This is one of those rare albums where every song is good and it doesn't matter how many times you play it, the CD never becomes tiresome. It's hard to believe "The Woman In Me" is now 15 years old, but the songs have never aged which is a testament to how good a singer and songwriter Shania is. The albums tracks were all written by Miss Twain along with her then-husband "Mutt" Lange. Lange also produced the CD. Other tracks that are standouts here are the title track, "You Win My Love", "If Your Not In It For Love", "No One Needs To Know", and "God Bless The Child". As of 2010 "The Woman In Me" has gone on to be certified 12X platinum. It won the Best Country Album grammy and still holds the record as being one of the best-selling albums by a female singer of all-time. This belongs in everyone's CD collection.
