Free Music Review: Oh YEAH!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this after reading the other reviews about the ablum and am THRILLED to say that all the good things are TRUE!!! This is a friggin' classic from A to tomorrow. All that which sounds paradoxically, classically true in Amy Wine-weed-and-whatever-else-detox-house is even better here with Sharon's vastly superior vocals. FYI, that which turns me on with this disc is largely true of James Hunter's "People Gonna Talk" disc. They both do a fantastic job of capturing that distinctive sound of late '60's soul/blues hit parade. It's largely from the brilliance of the engineering and production staff at the studio, so keep those guys in mind as you smile while listening to either (and if you like James, buy this and vice versa!).

Free Music Review: I'm Souled
Hit: 5 Stars

Getting wiser and all grooved up as Sharon teaches me the way to get a girlfriend and then how to humble her when her she asks for too many things. Teach me Sharon - I want to learn! Seriously, I can't beleive this was made in the last few years and not at the hey day of Northern Soul at the end of the sixties. She seems to have taken the essence of everything cool about that movement and brought it back into the world. Soul music is more than just the beat and the horn corners - real soul music includes real soul, real heart - you know it when you hear it. You'll hear it in Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings 100 Days. Don't hesitate to add this gem to your collection.

Free Music Review: The Real Deal
Hit: 5 Stars

I just saw Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings in concert last week. They were DYNAMITE!!! This album fits-in perfectly with the Motown and Stax records you already love. It's not an updated version of soul or some modern soul "styling". It's the ghost of James Brown channeled through a woman by the name of Sharon Jones. Buy this album! Buy the other two while you're at it.

If you get a chance to see them live, by all means go. I saw them on a Monday night in a small club but they blew the roof off the joint and left everyone wanting more.

Free Music Review: How can you not dig it?
Hit: 5 Stars

Well, if you aren't into old school R&B/soul, then you probably won't dig it. If you at all find sizzling horns, funky bass lines, and female vocalists with voices from God at all listenable, then you will love this CD. For a point of reference--Amy Winehouse used the Dap Kings as backup for most of her debut (Back to Black). Take that band, better songs, and a stronger vocalist with soul to spare, and you get Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. I don't have their first two CDs, but they're on my wish list.

Free Music Review: Move over Etta, Della and Aretha!
Hit: 5 Stars

Few new releases make me go, "Wow!" - this one made me say, "wow, WOW and WOOOWWW!!!" From the shockingly crisp arrangement of the title track "100 days, 100 Nights", to the deeply soulful Gospel "Answer Me", Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings totally nail the classic R & B sound of the early 60's. What's more, these aren't a rehash of worn out covers, but amazingly original yet true to the genre tracks that truly turn the clock back to a time when music could really MOOOVE you. Amen, Sister Sharon!
