Free Music Notes for These Four WallsFree Music Review: Colvin country Hit: 5 Stars
This is heartland Shawn Colvin, with all the emotional richness and musicality you've come to expect from her. I've been a fan since her first album, and this offering does not disappoint. I think of the Colvin trademark as being insightful lyrics, catchy acoustic guitar, and very cool arrangements. I have a preference for albums that have the John Leventhal touch on the production side, and here is one of those. This album is up there with the best.
Free Music Review: LOVE IT....GIVE IT TO SOMEBODY FOR CHRISTMAS Hit: 5 Stars
The last few CD's she has produced have not been that good but this one is a real winner. There is hardly a bad cut on the CD. Its one of her most personal efforts and the music, lyrics and instrumentation are spare but wonderful. She has just changed to Nonesuch (they used to be mostly classical) and I think the change did her good. Read her interesting liner notes in the CD. This is a CD to love and play over and over. Jusr great stuff.
Free Music Review: Back in top form! Hit: 5 Stars
I am indeed one of those patient Shawn Colvin fans willing to wait on each new release - and this one did not disappoint! Though there were a couple of great tunes on "Whole New You", this recording has more of the "Fat City" vibe to me, much more even throughout. This one will be popular with both long-time fans and newcomers to Shawn's music. She continues to display her talents as one of the best songwriters on the scene today.
Free Music Review: Shawn Colvin returns to form with a brilliant new album Hit: 5 Stars
Five years was worth the wait. Shawn Colvin returns to form after the uneven "Whole New You." The reason, amazing songwriting. "Summer Dresses" is the highlight among a great collection of songs. The lyrics are subtle and moving--she doesn't strain to write poetically. The production is also more restrained than it was on her last effort, never overpowering the heartfelt, personal, and evocative vocal performance.
Free Music Review: Best from a gifted singer songwriter Hit: 5 Stars
This may be the best I've heard from Ms Colvin. These are well crafted songs with great musicians. The steel guitar part in "Cinnamon Road", is spectacular. I get the feeling she is maturing much in the manner of the great Joni Mitchell. This is a fine album with melodies and lyrics which I think about through the day. Keep up the good work Shawn!
