Free Music Notes for These Four WallsFree Music Review: Finally! Hit: 4 Stars
Have been waiting for a long time. Its not her best, but a great combo of work. And as always the voice of an angel is always soothing to hear. Thanks Shawn!
Free Music Review: true to herself Hit: 4 Stars
Shawn stays true to form, as she does with all her work. Same beautiful, thoughtful music, that she churns out with every album. She is aging very nicely.
Free Music Review: another wonderful voice Hit: 4 Stars
Found several songs I really liked: these 4 walls, venetian blue, the bird, I'm gone and let it slide.
Free Music Review: Willing artist, shallow material Hit: 3 Stars
Colvin's seduction lies in her voice, at once oddly piquant and straight-faced, a twang that nicely embodies her cast of yearners, scrappers and outcasts. Her long time producer John Leventhal knows just to frame it, from the opener's ("Fill Me Up") percussive take on needy assertion to the keening, dissonant refrain of "Summer Dress." Still, memories of her better albums (Cover Girl, Whole New You) make this enterprise sound as if she stopped at the 1st, or 2nd drafts, lyric-wise. The songs refuse to stick, or most egregiously, haunt, like her best.
Free Music Review: Well Worth A Listen Hit: 3 Stars
Shawn's latest worthwhile effort offers poetically poignant lyrics framed by reserved but potent musical accompanyment. Her expressive, yet somewhat nasally, voice sounds as good as ever and the songs are well crafted and heartfelt, however if you're hoping for gems with a great hook and dynamics comparable to Shawn's "Sonny Came Home," "Get Out of This House," or "Suicide Alley" you may be somewhat disappointed.
