Free Music Notes for Beneath the Velvet SunFree Music Review: LOVE Shawn Mullins Hit: 5 StarsI love Shawn Mullins, and I LOVE this CD. This is way better than Soul's Core (which was a very solid set to introduce himself to the mainstream world). "Everywhere I Go" is infectious and could be on constant replay. Do it. Just do it. You won't regret it.
Free Music Review: A pop sounding Shawn Mullins? Hit: 5 StarsI am a big Shawn Mullins fan and have had the pleasure of seeing him perform locally in Atlanta several times. He is a very talented artist with lyrics that usually tell a story...sometimes involving characters he is familiar with. It has always really surprised me this CD never really did anything on the pop charts...it is more "pop" sounding to me than the traditional Mullins stuff, and in my opinion there are several songs that could have made it to top 40. There really isnt a bad song on the CD and you can hear everything from hints of Tom Petty or Pink Floyd to traditional folk rock with a catchy tune and even some twinges of country. Not my favorite Shawn Mullins (I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 if it were available), but for what he was aiming for, it is hard to beat and in my opinion is much better stuff than what usually makes it onto your local station. So, if you like folk rock and lyrics that are well thought out, get this CD...you wont be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Under Rated Hit: 5 StarsShawn Mullins is quite possibly the most under rated singer/songwriter of our day. His soulful melodies and haunting lyrics have the unique ability to move your soul. His is truly an ecclectic mix of country, rock and folk that reels in the listener with unusual hooks and spoken word riffs that are a breath of fresh air. Beneath The Velvet Sun does not have a single bad song on it - which can be said for most of Mr. Mullins works. Buy it - you will not be disappointed.
Free Music Review: back in the player Hit: 5 StarsAfter catching a snipet in a restaurant I couldn't resist putting this album back in the player. Years later I still have the same response to his voice and story telling. If you've enjoyed any of Shawn's music be sure to add this album to your collection. You won't be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Great Listening! Hit: 5 StarsI've heard this album a hundred times and never get bored. North on 95 is one of my favorites. I also love Soul's Core but I prefer this one.
