Free Music Review: Shawn is back!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is Shawn Mullin's best album since Soul's Core. The album has a distinct old time feel to it, but it also has a vibrance to attract youth. Mullins is a highly underrated artist, and I would strongly recommend this album to fans of his previous work or someone who is looking for something different from mainstream music.

Free Music Review: Musically Home Again
Hit: 5 Stars

Shawn has been one of my favorite musicians for a long time. Souls Core exposed him to many but Big Blue Sky, Eggshells and Jeff's Last Dance, I,II, and III built a solid foundation for that popular explosion. Shawn comes across as a rootsy, folksy, rocker on disc but his live shows are that much better. My wife and I have seen Shawn lots of times and he remains a grounded, down to earth talent that connects the dots through his songs.
His voice is unique and is perfectly suited for the type of music he delivers on Honeydew. Beneath the Velvet Sun had some high points but it almost seemed as if Shawn was in a slightly foreign land with all the effects money can buy. Here he is back home again. Sure there is a band behind him, but this is a close and intimate recording. Shawns voice and guitar stand out as they should. Jack Nicholson pays the money for Lakers tickets to see Kobe Bryant, not Luke Walton. Here, Shawn is once again the Kobe Bryant on the album. This is uncomplicated musicianship and it is freaking awesome.
If there is ever a time that one would consider music "honest", this is it. The stories define what is Americana and are applicable all across our country. Ironically, just before this was released, after it was recorded, a converted mill in Cabbagetown, now a loft community was struck by a tornado. Yes Cabbagetown is real, the mills were real, and of course, they are almost all lofts now. There is one more great Cabbagetown converted mill story out there just waiting to be a Shawn Mullins song. A firefighter rescued a crane operator from the tip of the crane while hovering over a fire, in a harness from a helicopter, all on live TV several years ago. I can't wait to hear about it on the next album.
