WHEN I FIRST HEARD SHAWN PHILLIPS SING AND PLAY HIS GUITAR, IT TOOK SEVERAL TIMES TO REALIZE THAT HE WAS ACTUALLY REAL (YES, IT WAS THE SEVENTIES), AND NOT A WONDERFUL DREAM INDUCED BY THE MAGICAL NORTHWEST RAINFOREST THAT I LIVED IN AT THE TIME. TRANSCENDENT AND SEEKING WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO SUMMARIZE WHAT THIS ARTIST HAS MEANT TO ME AS A FELLOW MUSICIAN AND SPIRITUAL SEEKER.
AS AN AMATEUR, I HAVE CHOSEN WHAT I FEEL ARE THE BEST SONGS FROM THE OCCASSIONAL OUTSTANDING ARTIST, MADE THEM PLAYABLE FOR ME AND SHARED THEM WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS. "KINGS AND CASTLES" HAS DWELLED WITHIN THIS OLD SINGER FOR DECADES. ONE OF THESE DAYS, ARTHRITIS WILL STRIKE, MY VOICE WILL LOSE SHAWN'S RANGE, TRANSPOSING WILL NOT WORK, AND I SHALL BE SILENCED. BUT UNTIL THEN, PEOPLE WILL AT TIMES HEAR AGAIN THIS LOVELY SONG. THEN AGAIN YOU COULD JUST BUT THE ALBUM!
