Free Music Notes for Second Contribution

Free Music Review: 1 copy is not enough.
Hit: 5 Stars

I first purchased this album in 1971. I wore it out and purchased another one in 1976. Now 30+ years later I needed a new copy in CD so I could put it on my ipod. This is probably my favorite of all of Shawn's Albums and I own them all.

Free Music Review: just as good as I remember
Hit: 5 Stars

First heard Shawn Phillips in concert in the early seventies and to date is still the best concert ever attended. It took me back to those times to hear the music again

Free Music Review: Amazing Texan Artist
Hit: 5 Stars

I had the great fortune to see Shawn Phillips at the Guthrie Theater in 1974 and he absolutely blew the crowd away. He did an acoustical set alone with his guitars and is a fantastic gutarist as well as a gifted voice. I truely believe the only reason you don't hear his songs now is that so many people just have not heard him. A shout out to KQRS (they brought FM radio to the Twin Cities) in Golden Valley for playing his music back in the day and helping me discover one of this countries gifts. This album is my favorite of his.

Free Music Review: Shawn's Finest
Hit: 5 Stars

This is by far Shawn Phillips' finest musical creation. To be honest, after hearing Second Contribution, with the exception of a single here and there, (Moonshine, for instance), I was disappointed in everything else I have ever heard him do. His other albums are good, but Second Contribution is GREAT! Musically, lyrically, and structurally, this album is hard to beat. If you only want one Shawn album, this is the one for you.

Free Music Review: This album was released in 1970, NOT 1988!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Absolutely a defining album from that historical period and Shawn is still around although just barely after suffering a serious heart problem and surviving an incident where that long hair of his got caught up in the engine of a boat that almost killed him. I've seen Shawn perform many times in Atlanta and Decatur over the years and the experience is spiritual. His first album "Contribution" is a good one too, especially "Withered Roses." For anyone interested, there's a couple of videos of Shawn on Youtube to enjoy and ponder those turbulent times for anyone who came of age between '68 - '78.
