Free Music Review: A Melodic Hit First Time at Bat

Bottom-Line: Beauty and talent, a potent combination; SheDaisy done it well!
I listen to Great American Country (GAC) when I am by myself, a lot (my wife doesn't care for the genre) and that is where SheDaisy first came to my attention with their song Little Goodbye's. I found the tune very catchy and the sisters harmonized well together so I decided to give the sisters debut CD, The Whole Shebang a shot, and I have not been disappointed.
I have written before that it is rare that I enjoy an entire album, so this one was a pleasant surprise. Of course there are some tracks I like better than others; track No. 1, Little Goodbyes, track No. 3, This Woman Needs, track No. 6, "Still Holding Out For You," and track No. 9, "Without Your Love," come immediately to mind. I find the music itself compelling and the lyrics powerful in a way that is refreshing from an all female group; mature and telling, yet still there is an undercurrent of softness. The girls are telling us all that they are strong, but still need to held at night in order to feel complete--I liked that!
Another song that jumps out at me is track No. 4, "Lucky 4 You (Tonight I'm Just Me)." The song really highlights the girls three part harmony beautifully even more than "Little Goodbye's" and I love the violins at the beginning, middle and end (next to the saxophone, the violin is my all time favorite instrument). Partial lyrics, "Lucky 4 You (Tonight I'm Just Me)," written by Jason Deere and Kristyn Osborn:
"Number five just cries a river a minute
Seven wants to tie you up and drown you in it
Fourteen just wants to say so long, bygones
Thirty-two wants to do things to you that'll make you blush
Ten will key the El Camino that you love so much
And there ain't nobody wants to mess with twenty-three . . ."
Track No.6, "Still Holding Out for You," is simply beautiful song writing and a stellar performance by the group, and I often find myself singing along bringing up the rear. The song for me invokes the picture of a woman sitting, knee drawn up to her chest, looking out a bedroom window playing back the memories of a relationship gone wrong for reasons long since forgotten, as rain falls in sheets from a too gray sky, echoing off the roof and soaking a garden once beautiful and alive, but now dying from neglect. There is a minute sound at the bedroom door and the woman looks up expectantly, but then there is no one there...and she muses on...
Track No. 9 "Without Your Love" is another that stands out for me--what can I say, I am a sucker for love songs. And finally, track No. 10, "A Night to Remember," stands out because the story it tells of a woman betrayed by the man she trusted and loves is an all too real and tragic one played out in life far too often.
One of the real strengths of The Whole Shebang is the fact that one of the sisters, Kristyn, co-wrote all of the songs on the album. She wrote Still Holding Out for You with Richard Marx, who is another one of my favorite artists, so I know the girls have staying power. For me their next release will be an automatic buy. Beauty and talent, a potent combination; SheDaisy done it well!
SheDaisy, whose Native American origin means, "my sisters," consists of three sisters Kristyn (primary song writer, and backup vocals), Kassidy (lead singer) and Kelsi Osborn (backup vocals).
