Free Music Notes for I Am Shelby Lynne

Free Music Review: Very uneven
Hit: 2 Stars

Track 1: an excellent homage to Phil Spector's girl group songs, track 2: a wonderful, deep homage to soul music. For me the rest of this CD is completely forgettable.

Free Music Review: fabulous
Hit: 5 Stars

I've had this CD for 11 months and I have played more than any other CD I own. I love it and highly recommend it. It's powerful.

Free Music Review: One of the Great New blueyed songtresses
Hit: 4 Stars

I was not suprised to hear when shelby Lynne won best new artist of 2000 grammys. It has been a long hard road down the muscle shoals and out of Nashville. she is a mix of Dusty Stringfield meets Aretha Franklin Lite. IF you cloes your eyes you can hear a slight twang or You can hear a great african-american voice. She has that deep rich voice that comes along once in a generation. Now that people know of her I hope she dosent become overproduced and lose her original fan base and originality

Free Music Review: Shelby Finds Her Groove
Hit: 5 Stars

For years Shelby struggled, trying to make it in Nashville with her original blend of country. With her 2000 release I AM SHELBY LYNNE, she finds a way to blend country with jazz and soul to create an original sound. Her roots shine through on this album. Its good start to finish. The album brought critical acclaim and won Shelby a Grammy for Best "New" Artist (even though she's been around since the late 80's). Some highlights on the album include "Why Can't You Be", "Where Im From", "Black Like Blue" and "Gotta Get Back", but this whole cd is filled with excellent songs. Shelby has found her groove, and she's still making great music.

Free Music Review: Cheryl Crow?
Hit: 4 Stars

In all honesty I give the CD 3.5 stars. I bought it for the song titled "Dream some" which I heard while watching Bridgett Jones'Diary. The song is beautiful and Shelby shows her sweet soprano side. The album is good. However, a great deal of it sounded like Sheryl Crow's debut album, which I loved...so much so that it seemed to lack originality. This is not surprising because it was produced by the same person. Suffice to say, had I never heard Cheryl Crow, I would have given it 5 stars.
