Free Music Review: If you gave this "One Star", then you must be insane.
Hit: 5 Stars

This album gives us the beautiful words and wonderful, eclectic music of a woman who seems to be emotionally maturing before us all. Yes, her "sound" does have hints of Dusty Springfield, even early Bonnie Raitt, but don't be mistaken by those "One Star" reviewers who say she's just copying others' art. Listen with an open ear, and you will hear that she is doing anything but copying; she is pouring out her soul, and just happens to have a gorgeous voice with which to do it, and she can write a song like nobody's bidness!

Free Music Review: #5 Album Of The Year!
Hit: 4 Stars

After an unsuccessful stint in the realm of country music. Alabamian Shelby Lynne decided to try her hand in her other native music... blues. And with a little help from producer Bill Bottrell (Sheryl Crow) Lynne released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2000. With her soulful voice and electric guitars backing her up, Lynne sang her self-written songs with such conviction and emotion that a listener can't help but be taken in by it. The standout tracks on this album are "Your Lies" and "Black Light Blue". As mute testimony to her talent, Lynne has been nominated for Best New Artist at the up-coming Grammy awards.

Free Music Review: Blinded By The Hype
Hit: 1 Stars

Every once in a while I ignore my red flags and buy a CD based on the overwhelming positive press/reviews I read..."I shoulda known better"...maybe I'm too well adjusted (or too stupid to know I'm not) but after listening to the CD I wanted a bottle of cheap scotch and a dimestore cigar...if Shelby were trying to capture a dark and gloomy tone - bulls eye!...the cover should have tipped me off...I ignored it..."I see a red door and I want to paint it black"...I passed the CD on - my old friend gave it back!...jeeze Shelby, if this was an attempt to be yourself: lighten up...take me to a better place or at least help me forget where I am now...a great voice, good production, bad direction...next time: I'll listen first, then check with the good folks at ...... won't get fooled again...The MAD Drummer

Free Music Review: Appreciate The Good Stuff
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't care what anyone says - this album is great. Don't compare it to anything else. It's just good. Take it where you can get it.

Free Music Review: It's OK, if you still listen to your old '70s albums
Hit: 2 Stars

I saw Shelby perform the song "Gotta Get Back" on the Rosie O'Donnell show and was impressed. I listened to the short samples from the album and figured it sounded OK. When I got the album, I put it on right away in anticipation. Well, I'm still scratching my head and wondering what happened to the rest of the album! "Gotta Get Back" is a lively song and very listenable. The rest of the songs are stuck somewhere in the '70s. I've read reviews that say her style is influenced by some earlier legendary singers. Well, I think "influenced" is an understatement. Instead of applying her influences to a more modern sound, she chooses to just repeat that old music with different sheet music and lyrics. In other words, putting out a sound that has come and gone. "Gotta Get Back" is the exception to the rule. It actually sound fresh, but it doesn't justify the rest of the album. If you can't get enough of the old '70s style of female singing, then this album is for you. If you're looking for something more up-to-date, then save your money and look out for any other new albums by other modern female artists (Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Sarah Brightman, Sade, the list goes on...).
