The planets aligned for this one! Wonderful production, tasteful accompaniment, nice natural sound for a cd. Shelby's intimate, soulful, sensual vocals will warn your heart. Buy it, listen and life will seem somehow, better.
Plays like a sweet dream. Yes, I'm in love. Can't wait for the vinyl lp!

Free Music Review: Magnificent, Undertstated, Brilliant, and Elegant
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me begin by saying that this album was produced by Phil Ramone, recorded and mixed by Al Schmidt, and engineered by Doug Sax of the Mastering Lab. These three distinguished gentlemen have at least 100 years of experience between them and on this album it shows. If you're REALLY into the music, then these 3 wise men are an integral part of the success of this endeavor.
One of the chief music reviewers from the Philadelphia Inquirer said in part of his glowing review, that "Shelby Lynne makes these songs her own while paying homage to Dusty Springfield." Her singing to me is confident, sparse, and shows deep feeling in every song. The understated music behind her, lets Shelby's voice carry the song without ever overpowering her. Her phrasing is impeccable.
Every song is a separate and distinguished piece of work, and yet taken all together this album should win the 2008 Grammy for Album Of The Year.
You rarely hear music like this, and when you listen to this CD again and again, let the music wash over you, let it reach your soul, because that's what it did to me.

Free Music Review: Super!
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is Excellent! Shelby does a bang-up job of interpretting Dusty's songs. The project is laid back and cool and totally enjoyable. I am now seeking out Shelby's earlier recordings. She has made a fan in me. The guy that writes Chart Beat for Billboard Magazine has already declared "Just A Little Lovin'" as one of the best 10 albums of 2008, and I think I am in agreement with him. Great project!

Free Music Review: Just A Little Classic

Taking on an album featuring the songs of Dusty Springfield would constitute career suicide for most female performers. But then Shelby Lynne is not most female performers. Like Springfield, Lynne has been overlooked - an unspeakable crime considering the incredible talents both bring to the table. Shelby Lynne further demonstrates her wisdom is bypassing untouchables like "Son of a Preacher Man" and "Wishin' and Hopin'." While enlisting Phil Ramone as producer - someone who has experience producing Springfield - Lynne opts for spare arrangements over the glossy lacquer that typically covered much of Springfield's material. Less proves to be far more with Lynne's gorgeous voice following like silk over the well-chosen jewels like "Breakfast in Bed," "Anyone Who Had a Heart," and a particularly haunting rendition of "The Look of Love." Another of Lynne's idols comes forward as the spirit of Bobbie Gentry hovers over Tony Joe White's "Willie and Lauramae." Not to completely dismiss her own quite considerable song-writing talents, Lynne contributes the stunning "Pretend" into the mix with nary a ripple. Not that anyone in the music industry seems to remember, but it wasn't all that long ago that Shelby Lynne won a Grammy. While it's still early, I can think of far worse fates for this exquisite album.

Free Music Review: Love it!
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is definitely a heavy rotation in my playlist. My favorite is "How Can I Be Sure", gorgeous singing and wonderful guitar backup. "I Don't Want to Hear It Anymore" comes in a close second. I've always loved Shelby's style and her unique voice. I'm very happy to add this CD to my permanent collection.
