I purchased this CD the MOMENT it was released, based on how much I admired the talents of the late..and GREAT Dusty Springfield. It's very didfficult for any artist to take CLASSIC tunes such as these, and make them their own,but Shelby Lynne has done just that. Her phrasing and emotion put her her the catagory of the late Patsy Cline, AND that's a tough act to follow!!!
Bravo to Lost Highway Records for having the foresight to release this CD. I only hope they will continue to support it by releasing some of the cuts to the Jazz..and AC stations..Since the CD was released so early in the year, we wouldn't want it to be forgotten when the Grammys are announced..This one should be right up there in front!!! A masterpiece!!!!!

Shelby Lynne sings her heart out! She makes each song her own with emotion that makes you relive love's ups & downs. As much as I love this cd or as Shelby puts it "her first record" seeing her perform it live took us to a new appreciation of her talent. One of the finest CDs ever recorded. The crystal purity of Shelby Lynn's voice is well expressed in this production. I purchased this CD after hearing her interviewed on National Public Radio and was even more impressed after listening to each cut. Dusty Springfield made great records of great songs. Those songs are linked to a certain time; Shelby Lynne shakes the dust off and makes these old tunes new. Her spare arrangements put that great naked voice of hers out front, and you hear some of these well-worn lyrics seemingly for the first time. Was given the enormous good fortune to see Shelby Lynne april 4th in nyc while she does her tour.
I have seen many great singers in 35 years ranging from Janis Joplin to Carmen Mcrae. Shelby Lynne
, and her allstar band, put up one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen, and I been fortunate to see many.
This material , this band, and this girl put on a show for the ages. See her play this material before the tour ends.
The recording here is a bit of a musical miracle. It takes great material, from a great singer, and brings a fresh air to it.Dusty smiles.It includes a tune-Pretend-which was written by Ms Lynne-its beautiful.
For any musicians out there, you know how hard this is, and what a daunting task this group had.
Bravo. Thank you. This recording will stand the test of time 50 years from now. From someone who
has followed this young ladies carreer for years, I am happy for you. I think you know you recorded a classic.
