Free Music Notes for Just A Little Lovin'Free Music Review: Dusty and Shelby Hit: 5 StarsDusty is a fav of mine while Shelby is new to me........Shelby does a new twist on classics. I like it !!!
Free Music Review: Just a little lovin' Hit: 3 StarsThis CD was reccomended in Stereophile. This is indeed one of my best sounding CDs. Having very few, accomplished musicians with this sweet, beatiful voice was sure to produce fine music, but no matter how hard I tried, I ended up not much more satisfied than coming out of an elevator. This CD will collect dust in my library.
Free Music Review: Truly excellent singing Hit: 5 StarsWhile I usually shy away from cover albums, this collection stands head and shoulders above anything on pop radio. Eschewing the typical vocal embellishments of Christina, Celine, et al., Shelby cruises through these songs with a justifiable sense of ownership. Her take on You Don't Have To Say You Love Me is a frontrunner for song of the year.
Free Music Review: Just a Little Average Hit: 3 StarsAs for Shelby Lynne, the new CD, I can understand how Norah Jones fans would like this. I felt it lacked any real spark and Dusty's voice is so sultry compared to Lynne'd (whichis generally sultry!), she is way too laid back on most cuts. A mild disappointment, but I expected a lot from the CD.
6 hockey pucks out of 10 for Lynne "Lovin", but one puck is an empty netter...
I stand by my reviews of "I am Shelby Lynne" (a masterpiece), and Temptation and Love Shelby are both good.
Free Music Review: Shelby Lynne shows: Less is More Hit: 5 StarsShelby Lynne shows with Just a Little Lovin' again that less can be more.
She gives songs from the Dusty Springfield-songbook and songs inspired by Dusty a very surprising twist. It's very impressive how she creates an atmosphere that really grabs you by the throat. She uses a minimum of orchestration for this. Never before I heard "Anyone who had a Heart" (track 2) so full with withhold emotion. To start "You don't have to say you love me" (track 3) a capella is unique.
The combination of Producer Phil Ramone and Shelby Lynne works perfect on the material. The self-written "Pretend" (track 9) fits perfect between the other songs.
For me this album already is the best album of the year 2008!
