Free Music Notes for DetoursFree Music Review: Eh. Too much droning and wailing... a big disappointment Hit: 2 StarsI guess this is some sort of therapeutic thing for her but I listen to music to feel good - this doesn't do that at all. I got it for my wife as a gift - we both like Sheryl Crow, but I kept skipping to the next song until the CD was over. My wife doesn't like it much compared to past Crow music. Disappointing - wish I hadn't purchased it. Sorry Sheryl - I hope you feel more joyful soon and that your future music reflects it!
Free Music Review: Sheryl Crow's best yet Hit: 5 StarsEach song resounds with love, humor, truth and inspiration. What's interesting to me about this album is that I hear traces of Crow's musical influences that I've never noticed before. A rhythm guitar piece reminiscent of the Rolling Stones, harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles, etc. Her musical journey on this album is extremely personal, revealing emotion, spirit, her life history, as well as the roots of her musical process. Fascinating, and just good sound, good beat. Good to exercise to, good to keep you company. She so transcends the "girly" girls because she is a whole person--a musician, a poet, a rocker--youthful, energetic, and composed and balanced at the same time. Love her. It will do your heart good.
Free Music Review: Miss Crow, I disagree with your message................ Hit: 5 Stars.....but I sure like the way you deliver it. Shortly after the start of the Iraq War, Sheryl wore a T-shirt [or button]? onstage that said "Mr. Bush, I Don't Like Your War". No military person "likes" war, but sometimes it's necessary. I support President Bush, and the war, and am sorry that advanced age limits my contribution. EVERY war in our history has had opponents; I live in Virginia, where there are folks who will tell you that not only the Civil War, but the American Revolution, turned out wrong. Long preamble, and who cares? This is a wonderful, and joyous, album, even if some of the lyrics seek to convey an unpleasant point. The music is superbly sung, and absolutely rocks.
The songs are all special, but a few deserve specific mention..."God Bless This Mess" seems to be about somebody Sheryl knows returning from Iraq all messed up, and "Shine Over Babylon" has a bit of the same theme. "Out of Our Heads" has a 1960s feel to it, as do parts of the whole album. "Gasoline" is some kind of nonsensical prophecy, that is still quite well done. "Diamond Ring" is a great song, though some won't care for the idea behind it. Heck......
....the entire record is well done. I like good music, even when I don't agree with the content. I endured being spat upon for my uniform during Viet Nam [thank God THAT isn't happening now; at least the Troops are supported], but the '60s still produced some great music; this is great music, too. Well sung, well backed-up, a fine album, that I heartily recommend. Some may accuse me of giving five stars because Sheryl is a pretty blonde; she is, but "Detours" can stand very well on its own, thank you.
Free Music Review: Cheryl Crow Detours Hit: 5 StarsCheryl Crow, while remaining original, is more in a Beatle mode than ever. For Beatle fans, most of this album is a pure delight. The politics are too stident in places, such as "Gasoline", but overall listeners ranging from rock to country will find songs to love. I rate albums on a 1 to 10 scale. I give DETOURS a "9", not just as in "number 9, number 9...."
Free Music Review: Shut up and SIng Hit: 1 StarsI wish I hadn't bought this album. The anti American lyrics are insulting. The lyrics in "Shine Over Babylon" are an example of Ms. Crow's hypocrisy. "...We celebrate the golden cow. Praise the bloated bank account. if there is a God where is he now..." So you mean to tell me Ms. Crow sings about the evils of Capitalism while she drives her expensive gas guzzling car to the bank to deposit her profit from selling her albums? Does she really think we believe she doesn't have a bloated bank account? Give me a break! She should be singing about the praises of Capitalism because she certainly benefits from them. She should be singing about the braveness of our soldiers overseas!! If she hates America so much and thinks it is better someplace else she should leave. I certainly will read the lyrics more carefully before my next album purchase and so should you.
