Free Music Notes for The Globe Sessions

Free Music Review: Great album--"Phooey" to Amazon reviewer
Hit: 5 Stars

In light of Sheryl Crow's latest album, the poppy, sparkling "C'mon C'mon", I had to go back and visit this, her previous effort, from four years earlier. For sure, there is a lot of difference between the two albums, but both deserve accolades for fantastic musicianship. In fact, of Sheryl's 4 releases, only the first one is worthy of less than 5 stars in my book. Since then, she has continued to grow musically. This third release is further proof of that.

"My Favorite Mistake" and "Anything But Down" showcase this album very well as two fine singles. Both are clever and typically understated Sheryl. However, I also enjoy the catchiness of "There Goes The Neighborhood", the melancholy of "The Difficult Kind", and the hard, distorted sound of the end of "Am I Getting Through (Parts I & II)". Unlike her latest album, this album is not overall pop-based, which perhaps explains its lesser sales compared to her other albums. Nontheless, I consider it equally as brilliant as anything else this remarkable artist has put out...this is truly another Sheryl Crow masterpiece.

Free Music Review: THIS ALBUM IS SICK!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of the best Rock albums of this generation, wich has not seen great many preformers. Today, mostly everything in music is oriented to one group of people or another. And they see the audince as a market, a way of making profit, so the artisitic aspect of music is second to it's ability to sell. The Globe Sesions is an honest album. Songs that have been well thought-of and exelently crafted. It's not wallpaper music, or something you can play while you have a bunch of people over... This CD requires intimacy with the listener, or at least a small group of people. Because the arrangements, comosition and over all point of the CD is so solid in it's crafting, that it requires full atention. I think that when you hear music that is well made and has a sense of artestry, it gives the listener a sense of comfort. Comfort of knowing that the artist takes his/her work seriously, and is not going after you're money. Crow has managed to make a great Rock album, with a sonic depth comapable to some Floyd tunes or even Zeppelin. Sadly, since women are not seen equaly in the arts, and are all seen as feminists, or week, peopel under-rate great music, and log it away as just another "angy chick"> Sheryl Crow is totaly cool, I men, woulnd't you like to just sit down with hern and have a cupple of bears, smoke a joint and listen to some nice tunes? Because frankley I don't see my self doing that with any otherartist today. No one is layed back and still profesional about thair work. But anyway, enough rambling, just give it a few listens, and pay atention to the awsome layering and arangements.

Free Music Review: The perfect prescription for a recent breakup...
Hit: 5 Stars

I experience THE GLOBE SESSIONS as being Sheryl Crow's most intimate and vulnerable work to date. On the albums TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC CLUB and SHERYL CROW she sings primarily in the 3rd person, painting pictures of colorful characters in unusual situations, all the while keeping the listener at a safe distance. On THE GLOBE SESSIONS, Ms. Crow takes a courageous step forward and allows the listener to take a closer look at what's been going on beneath her own skin.
MELODIES:(A+)some of the catchiest and most interesting of
her career.
LYRICS:(A+)Very honest and straightforward but clever enough
to keep the listeners attention. Not a weak line in
the bunch.
PRODUCTION:(A+)Building her own recording studio seems to
have given her the confidence to be completely
herself. Arrangments alternate between medium rock
to girl-with-a-guitar(electric & acoustic).
PERFORMANCE:(A+)I really like the fact that she's begun using
her vocal wraspiness sparingly. That way it
has a more powerful effect when she does use it.

I feel that I should warn you all that this is one of those albums that has to grow on you. Don't worry, it will!

Free Music Review: Somewhere in between in the land of the Crow
Hit: 4 Stars

To mark the release of Sheryl Crow's new album, "C'mon, C'mon" I'm going back and reviewing her previous CD's. I haven't got my hands on "C'mon, C'mon" yet, so can't include it but ranking her works, the second self-titled "Sheryl Crow" would be tops and is one of the most listenable and replayed CD's I own. "The Globe Sessions" would come in a not too close second...and "Tuesday Night Music Club" would come trailing in as a disjointed but hopeful portent of good things to come, last.

"The Globe Sessions" doesn't carry the conviction and catchy strength of "Sheryl Crow", but is still quite enjoyable...There's some surprises here, like part II of "Am I getting Through" which transforms a power minor-tinged stomp ballad into a blazin' punk furious scorcher. Yes, maybe there is one too many faux "claps" and some minor misses with a few songs that drag, but this is still a very good listen. "The Globe Sessions" reaffirms that Crow has staying power in the modern world of rock putting out some music that draws from different times, catches some issues along the way, and always portrays the life she sees through her lens as cool and sad at the same time. She'll be around crowing for a while.

Free Music Review: Simply the Best
Hit: 5 Stars

If I could only listen to one CD for the rest of my life, this would most likely be it! My favorite tracks are "The Difficult Kind" (a softer, more soulful song), "It Don't Hurt" (catchy and has great lyrics), and "There Goes the Neighborhood" (can't stop myself from getting up and dancing!). In my opinion, this is a must-have,and shows off her outstanding talent.
