Free Music Notes for Tuesday Night Music ClubFree Music Review: Energetic Hit: 5 StarsWhen Sheryl Crow emerged in 1993, few people would be able to guess what the blue-eyed music teacher from Missouri would accomplish. However, her debut album, "Tuesday Night Music Club", put the critics to rest with its string of radio hits and impressive songs. At the time, few women were on the inside of the rock world, and none of them had successfully combined folk and rock. Crow was paving a new way for future female artists like Meredith Brooks, Jewel, and Alanis Morissette.
The album immediately conveys a sense of something different with its first track, the soulful `Run, Baby Run'. Featuring the sounds of a lounge club mixed with rock, it is both laid-back and bluesy. Radio hit `All I Wanna Do' is a quirky look at life in Los Angeles as seen through the eyes of a foreigner, and `The Na-Na Song' is a psychedelic journey through pop culture.
However, the three greatest tracks on the album are two ballads and its greatest hit. `Leaving Las Vegas' was written by Crow and Bill Bottrell after a friend wrote the novel; after the release of the film, it soared to new heights. With a memorable chorus and honest lyrics ("Such a muddy line/Between the things you want/And the things you have to do"), it captures the spirit of the film. Ballad `Strong Enough' is about the insecurities every female faces when she wonders if she has too much baggage to be in a loving relationship. `I Shall Believe', my personal favorite, is a heart-felt look at the blind comfort we all reach for at some point - wanting to hear that things will be all right, even if they realistically won't.
Few debut albums stack up to "Tuesday Night Club". It is full of soulful lyrics, memorable melodies, and an energy that is rarely seen in music. Though it was Sheryl Crow's first album, it is also perhaps her best album. With not one bad track on it, this record is one to enjoy time and again.
Free Music Review: The real scoop Hit: 4 StarsThere's one and only one reason why this project attained such success, and thus, launched what has been, by most accounts, a stellar career for SC. And that reason is/was Kevin Gilbert.In the beginning of this vapid, arid, non-musical torpor into which we seem to have fallen, there was a singer/writer/producer so gifted, it's entirely justified to draw comparisons to the works of Collins/Gabriel, Lennon/McCartney, and Becker/Fagen. But, apparently Kevin brought too much raw talent to the table to be easily pidgeon-holed by the major labels (a requirement if you're going to be signed). Kevin brought SC to the Tues. Night Music Club as a vocalist/keyboardist. That's how she came to the attention of the majors, who were, thereafter, easily able to box her up for general consumption. Meanwhile, his career languished, and not long after, Kevin's life came to an entirely unnecessary, and sadly 'premature' end. It's interesting to note that Kevin was scheduled, at the time of his death, to fly to Britain, to audition for a spot in Genesis -- a move which, had it succeeded, would have doubtless brought his phenomenal gifts to an industry and listening public sorely in need of them. I only found out about kevin after his death in '96, and I'm still blown away by the loss of an artist of his magnitude, at so young an age. Go to www.kevingilbert.com, and check out "Toy Matinee", "Thud", and "The Shaming of the True". Find out where the REAL talent behind this release lay. And imagine what might have been...
Free Music Review: A debut smash! Hit: 4 StarsSheryl Crow was one of a handful of female artists to have a smash debut album. Others with that distinction include Carole King's TAPESTRY,Mariah Carey's 1990 self-titled album,Whitney Houston's 1985 self-titled album and Alanis Morrissette's JAGGED LITTLE PILL. I think this album won a Grammy for 1994 Album of the Year. All the other aforementioned albums won Grammys also. Hits include LEAVING LAS VEGAS,STRONG ENOUGH,CAN'T CRY ANYMORE and the biggest,ALL I WANNA DO. Joanne Farrell covered that song in dance club form.

Free Music Review: Sheryl Crow Tuesday Night Music Club - Great debut CD! Hit: 5 StarsAs it was back in the early nineties, Sheryl Crow was sitting at home and thinking, my goodness, I've got to 'Run, Baby, Run' all the way down to the music studio and start cranking out some great songs that many a fan will enjoy but before I do that I've got to start thinking about 'Leaving Las Vegas' as this place is killing me with the tequila but am I truly 'Strong Enough' to make that leap because I 'Can't Cry Anymore' about it and I have to 'Solidify' my position since it's time to sing 'The Na-Na Song' but then, 'No One Said It Would Be Easy' making it big these days, so all I've got to say is 'What Can I Do For You' to those big wigs in the music studios because 'All I Wanna Do' is make great new songs and sing them in front of great crowds in small town America just because 'We Do What We Can' for them and 'I Shall Believe' that it is a great possibility to get there!I believe I was drawn into Sheryl Crow and her wonderful brand of music which is a mix of pop, rock and country, when her self titled sophomore album was released and was replete with #1 singles! Ever since that time, this gorgeous Missoura (yes, that's Missoura and that's how it's said by those that grew up there) girl has wowed her groves of fans with her beautiful voice, emotionally laden lyrics and catchy music! Having been drawn in by her self titled sophomore album, it was purely natural to seek out any of her earlier works which turns up "Tuesday Night Music Club," her debut album which was released in 1993. This album is packed with some terrific music, from the first track to the last. Every song on this album is worth listening to frequently as she covers the whole gamut from highly emotional mellow songs to foot stomping rock n' roll, she covers it all! As a whole and as a debut album, Sheryl Crow's "Tuesday Night Music Club" isn't quite the album that her second album was but it's an extremely close second that is well worth the price. I highly recommend this CD and any other CD that Sheryl Crow has released as you will soon find that you've made a very enjoyable and wise purchasing decision! {ssintrepid}
