Free Music Notes for Leave a WhisperFree Music Review: 5 Stars Hands Down, Best Rock Album of 2004 Hit: 5 StarsThis cd is incredible. There is not one song on this album that is not good. The vocals are amazing, the lyrics are amazing, everything about this band is awesome. Because they are so good I don't mind how mainstream the are. They have a new Live DVD coming out "Live From The Inside" filmed at a concert in the carolina's. I am so excited for their next album!! Best songs on the album...Crying Out, Better Version, Simple Man, 45, and of course Fly From The Inside!! If you haven't bought their album yet I don't know what you are waiting for, you honestly will not regret entering into Shinedown land!!
Free Music Review: Stunning. Hit: 5 StarsOne of my favourite albums to date. The songs 'Burning bright' and '45' have an unforgettable melody, and lyrics to match. A stunning masterpeice, and something you should own.
Free Music Review: Whisper? You Gotta Shout About This One! Hit: 4 StarsThis album is incredible in more ways than one. Firstly its incredible because although it is radio-friendly and very mainstream-like it is also very good. This is wierd because I would usually ignore bands who take the radio-rock approach. The vocals are the focus on this album and this guy has an amazing voice! They are talented and they pull off wonderful melodic and harmonic structures throughout nearly every song. The ballads are friggin amazing!
Secondly, this band have very deep and dark lyrics that really make you think about what you are listening to. Fly From The Inside is intense lyrically as well as musically. Double meanings are supreme here, with the idea of most modern rock (the feeling of needing to get away, having potential etc etc) but also a christian idea in much the same way as creed except so much better!
The band itself do take some traits from creed, in their melodies, but are most akin to bands such as nickelback, breaking benjamin, flaw, earshot, crossfade etc etc etc.
It would have been nice to hear some more guitar work from these guys as the guitarist seems to take second place behind the vocalist, which is sometimes a little repetetive. The drumming isn't particular impressive, yet it still works for the band and is very successful. (if you're into amazing drumming grab any of slayer's albums, slipknot's vol.3 the subliminal verses, mudvayne's LD5.0, fear factory's archetype, nine inch nails' with_teeth etc). The bass work is almost non-existent but to be honest the vocalist makes up for that.
So, in conclusion, shinedown's songwriting is the icing on the cake, the vocals are the bits of sprinkled chocolate on top, the guitarist is that aftertaste that you don't notice at first but then appreciate after a few slices, and the drums and bass are the things that keep the cake together but aren't that noticeable.
Best Songs:
Fly From The Inside 10/10
Left Out 9/10
Burning Bright 9/10
45 9/10
Free Music Review: An Good Addition to Your CD Collection Hit: 5 Stars"Leave a Whisper" has many songs that are unique. They don't constantly go over the same feelings that rock music has been singing about for ages. (Example: numbness) Everything from the lyrics, "voices", music, descriptions, and all the above are unique and orignal.
There messages are serious, thought provoking, and clean. Some people may say well what about "45"? "45" was making a thought provoking point. It neither promoted or gave an okay to suicide, rather the song remarked on "what happened to the young man's heart". It did a little explaining of the emotions of today's young men, and then went "Now I'm staring at the barrel of a 45, shifting through the ashes of another life" Honestly, in context it wasn't bad. Hey maybe, adults who are curious about today's youth's behavior should listen to that song. It might strike a cord in them.
All and all "Leave a Whisper" is good addition to any rock music collection.
Free Music Review: Best Album of '04 Hit: 5 StarsThis was without a doubt the best album of 2004. It's too bad I didn't pick it up until real early this year but this is a solid debut album. Every single song on this album is amazing and memorable. Brent Smith's vocals are probably the best there are out of not only debut bands but any band today. His voice shows well in the rocking songs like In Memory and Burning Bright while showing variety in songs like .45 and the cover, Simple Man.
Debut albums usually make a strong statement about what type of future a band may have and these guys have shown something here. It's one of the best albums I own overall while also being one of the best debut albums I own. There's really something for everyone here as long as your a Rock fan. I really can't think of any band they sound like or compare to. They're their own band with their own sound. Pick this album up ASAP and look forward to their follow-up later this year. The CD also comes with their music videos for Fly From The Inside and .45 so there's bonus content there.
