Free Music Review: Spectacular!

By the time I finished giving this cd it's second listen, I realized what a gem it was. I like it more than I liked the movie. The collection of music is particularly alien and beautiful. Every track has it's own chemistry and symmetry. What the film lacked, the soundtrack seemed to contain.
The Good - "If You Fall" by Azure Ray, Animal Collective's "Winter Love" (standing ovation needed here) , S. Matthew's "Surgery" , "It's not safe" by Gentleman Reg, the jeff buckley'ish "Kids" , the love'ish "Language" by Scott Matthew, the innocent windy "What Matters To Me" by Tiebreaker and The Hidden Camera's "Boy Of Melody" which will remind you Simon & Garfunkel.
I don't know if this soundtrack is for you but the best way to describe the movie and the music in one quote would be a rather obscure disconnected chant that goes like, "I used to try to change the world. Now I leave the room with a little dignity."
The Bad - Repetitive listening ; I don't think you can hear this alone for a month, it's not that great, ya see. Garden State fans, keep looking.
If you like this cd, you should definitely check out the soundtrack to "Stranger Than Fiction" It's very capable, summer breeze'ish and different too.
Enjoy what works. Overall, this cd deserves a purchase, it really does. Beautiful is the word. Ta

After seeing the film Shortbus, I was tremendously moved and felt I needed the soundtrack. The music is such an integral part of the film. JCM has chosen great songs and has exposed me to many great artists I never heard of. The great thing about listening to the CD is that it takes you right back to the film and many of its emotionally moving components. I am now looking for CDs by many of the artists featured on the CD. I love the CD start to finish but highlights are Azure Ray, Scott Matthew, Jay Brannan, The Hidden Cameras and Justin Bond. The film is a masterpiece and the soundtrack is the perfect compliment. John Cameron Mitchell is a genius. Thanks John. First impressions: that this was an atmospheric but perhaps unworthy follow up to the mighty Hedwig soundtrack. But it gently hooked it's way under my skin and became soon became essential listening. Mostly due to the magical Scott Matthew, the funny little man plucking away in the orgy scenes. I had never heard of this guy before but I intend to find out a whole lot more. Every track sits together to make a fun, thoughtful and soulful experience. A fantastic film and a brilliant album. Sorry for ever doubting you, Mr Mitchel. You have now made two of my all time favourite movies and soundtracks. Look forward to the third.Free Music Review: Incredible, simply incredible.

My friend dragged me to this film after he had seen it three times already at the local independant theatre, and I can understand now why he saw it so many times. The film is a raw and honest look at sexuality in America, with an emotional message that is second to none. My friend remarked that second only to Harold and Maude, it was the second best film ever made. The music flows wonderfully throughout the movie, really hilighting the actors struggles, achievements (and sex scenes no less). If you liked the movie, you really should have the soundtrack.Free Music Review: WARNING

This soundtrack should come with a warning message, because once these tunes get into your head, you cannot get them out.
If you see the movie, the effect will be greatly intensified by the synergy between music and imagery.
Each song holds a moment, a time and emotional space. As difficult as it was to get this CD out of my car CD player, getting the tunes out of my head has proven impossible.
The songs contain the kind of melodies that build in intensity with each listening.
