Free Music Review: Ultimately forgetable
Hit: 2 Stars

Very good, too bad none of it is original. They say immitation is the sincerest form of flattery, however that doesn't mean that the material qualifies as original, inspired or anything more than a thinly veiled cover song. If you like the Smiths, the Cure, or Bright Eyes then you'll love this, however it must be said that the majority of these songs (the good ones anyway) sound like Cure or Smiths songs performed slightly out of tune and with different lyrics. I'm sorry, but that does not constitute a new or original song. Listening to this album I heard the Cure's Just Like Heaven and Close to Me and the Smith's Heaven Knows I'm Miserable now, only set to lame shallow lyrics. It's hard not to listen to this album though as it sounds so much like the Cure, and the lead singer's voice is almost dead on at certain points. When the singer isn't busy sounding like Robert Smith, he's hard at work sounding like Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes. The bottom line, it's only worth it to down load a few of the choice tracks off this album, the CD itself is nothing special as it IS indeed a rip off, being influenced by other bands is one thing, but taking their songs and changing them around a little bit and replacing the lyrics is the very definition of creative theft. This album is basically for kids who don't know much about music or who know about the bands that the Shout Out Louds are ripping off but just don't care or respect those bands enough to call Our Ill Wills what it is. All that said, the Shout Out Louds would make a great Cure cover band, perhaps they should have stuck with that rather than trying to steal the work of others and pass it off as their own.

Free Music Review: It's called influenced
Hit: 5 Stars

I encourage you to follow HALF of Osvaldo's advice. Yes, you should go buy some Cure. But buy this album too. It's called influence, and you can recognize it here, but that doesn't mean you should dismiss it. Are there only 5 albums we should ever buy... or 5 pieces of art worth looking at? I don't think so. This is a great album, and I'll not soon tire of it.

Free Music Review: rip off
Hit: 1 Stars

This is a perfect example of the problem with contemporary pop/rock. Nothing original here, just rip offs of music from the past. Go buy the real stuff. Leave this glorified coverband alone.

Free Music Review: A Glorious Indie Pop album
Hit: 5 Stars

Any fan of The Cure and/or The Shins will devour this glorious pop album like a chocolate chip cookie! I've had it three days now and I foresee it being on continuous play for the next month or two. It's catchy without being redundant, it has hooks without over using them, it's positive without being cheesy. And they happen to be on one of my all-time favorite record labels, Merge. What a great fit for them. Sweden is churning out some incrdible bands these days and the Shout Out Louds are on the top of the pack. Bravo guy's.... and girls!!!!

Free Music Review: Soaring Power Pop
Hit: 4 Stars

Our Ill Wills is even better than the Shout Out Louds already-pretty-wonderful debut, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff. The sonic similarities to early Cure here are astounding. Any Head on The Door fans? BUY THIS ALBUM NOW. I'm glad this band was shuttled from the major label they were on (Capitol, I believe) to the indie-label Merge where they will get the care and attention they deserve.

Great live act, too. All the members are adorable and they sound wicked.
