Free Music Notes for Age of ReptilesFree Music Review: Amazing Hit: 5 StarsAdmittedly, I was not a fan of Showbread's "No, Sir, Nihilism is not Practical" album. I am not into the "spastic" screaming vocals, but I was still drawn to their music. Showbread is one of those bands that have an undeniable energy and talent, which is what drew me in to songs like "Mouth Like a Magazine," and "Matthias Replaces Judas," the latter being particularly impressive. However, in an act of daring Showbread has all but abandoned their screaming vocals, but lost none of their intensity, the result: a certified work of genius. Showbread shows with this album that they're not afraid to change, and that they can still churn out incredibly deep lyrics without having to scream them out. The vocals drip with emotion, and the overlaying themes and metaphors are carried out beautifully throughout the album, leading to their amazingly heartfelt final track "Age of Reptiles." DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY THIS ALBUM! Age of Reptiles is simply that good.
Free Music Review: Showbread's CD is almost as good as their LIVE shows are Hit: 5 StarsThis CD is amazing. It's got crazy, dance songs that you can't help but love. They've got clever lyrics that intrigue the listener, though it is occasionally difficult to understand exactly what they are saying. Showbread has gone through a lot of band members in its day, and with the loss of tae after this CD was recorded, it was questionable if Showbread would ever be the same. It's safe to say that they came back stronger than ever. I can't wait for Showbread's next CD. If you don't buy this CD, you're an IDIOT.
Free Music Review: Catch this lizard by the tail! Hit: 4 StarsI would typify this CD as produced just right. In an age where harder edged rock has sometimes become overproduced, it is refreshing when a band comes along that can keep the intensity of the garage or a live show and package it enough for a studio quality CD. The first two tracks "Naked Lunch" and "Pachyephalosaurus" are my favorites on this CD that has not one bad track. This lizard will curl up in your ear and stay there!
Free Music Review: I can't stop listening to it. Hit: 5 StarsIts a great CD. I can't stop listening to it. It is different than their last cd with a lot less screaming. Which is not a problem because if freakin rocks even more than the last one. They mention throwing up alot and thats weird. Also the song about a couple that becomes zombies and the guy eats part of the woman, but when she wakes up from death as a zombie they are still in love is bizzare and awsome at the same time.
Free Music Review: superb rock Hit: 5 StarsWith their explosive live shows and their new CD, it is no wonder why Showbread is quickly becoming one of the premier bands on the ever-growing Tooth and Nail roster. For Showbread's sophomore release, they have practically thrown out their signature "screamo" sound and have, instead, decided to focus their efforts in more of a punk-rock direction. A few fans of their first release ("No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical") may be disappointed with this change. However, with "Age Of Reptiles," Showbread has released a much stronger effort that is sure to garner rave reviews from critics and acquire a new legion of fans for the band.
Primary songwriter and lead singer, Josh Dies, delivers what some may call a "rock opera" with a reptilian theme. Lyrically, he tackles everything from self-worth, love, pain, and faith in God. At other times, his lyrics seem quite eccentric for such a young musician. However, this doesn't hinder the music at all. In fact, it just adds to the mysterious nature of Showbread and keeps the audience guessing as to the true meaning behind the words.
The production values of the recording are quite polished without forfeiting the raw energy that permeates from the band during their live shows. While listening, one can't help but want to throw their fist into the air and pump it with every beat. With "Age of Reptiles," Showbread has definitely released one of the best rock albums of the year. This is what rock and roll is about. This is what rock and roll should be.
