Free Music Review: Shrek 2 not as good as Shrek original Hit: 3 StarsI loved the music in original Shrek and thought Shrek 2 would be the same. I ordered the Shrek 2 CD before seeing the movie and was disappointed.
Free Music Review: shrek rules! Hit: 5 Starsmy kids and i are addicted! this is a great cd (actually our second one-we wore out the first) my little guy who will be 2 sings all the songs!!! a+++++
Free Music Review: Not just for the kids Hit: 4 StarsMy kids (ages 8 and 5) loved both Shrek movies, and for that matter, so did I; they did a great job of making the films enjoyable for the little ones, but humorous enough to engage us grown-ups, too. Fortunately, they were able to carry that over to both soundtracks.
I find that even after I've dropped off the kids at school when we were listening to this CD in the car, I'll keep it running for a while longer because I like the songs, myself.
Weirdly enough, I really liked the re-makes of Holding Out For A Hero (Frou Frou's version, not Jennifer Saunders') and Changes. I still love the original Holding Out best (from Footloose, you guys remember that? Or am I dating myself too much...?), but this funky version grew on me somehow. And Changes is fabulous, I'm sorry to see some of the other reviewers disliked it so much. The original is good, of course, but this one is also good; the singer has really good stylings, and her voice quality blends well with David Bowie's. (He sings with her on it, you know. So if he gave his personal stamp of approval, enough to perform it with her, then you gotta know it meets some pretty darned high standards there.)
"I Need Some Sleep" is another good song. It was such a powerful supplement to its scene in the movie, I can still feel the imprint of the feelings that scene conveyed even when hearing the song alone months later.
The only song I really can't stand is "A Little Drop of Poison," as it sounds like it belongs on a low-budget cartoon somewhere. Preferably locked in the cupboard never to see the light of day.
Aside from the songs I've already mentioned that I liked, there wasn't much on here for me to get excited about (what IS the big deal about Jennifer Saunders?), but it's such a nice alternative to the other kid-targeted music out there. This CD is one we can all listen to happily.
