Free Music Notes for Shrek 2Free Music Review: ^_^ Hit: 5 StarsIf you are thinking of buying the Shrek 2 album, you shhould. It is fabulous. "Holding out for a Hero" by Jennifer Saunders is AMAZING --- a must listen! It is the best track on the CD besides Accidentally in Love. There are several fun and awesome tracks on here.
Free Music Review: Very Good Soundtrack For Hollywood Standards Hit: 4 StarsConsidering the music coming out in many Hollywood films it is a pleasure the second Shrek isn't drek ! The song by Counting Crows, nominated for an Oscar from the album is possibly its's weakest good song at the number one slot..but have no fear this album just gets better and better. Songs like the spiritually moving "You're So True" by Joseph Arthur and "I Need Some Sleep" by The Eels are really great surprises. Some may be familiar with The Eels from other soundtracks as well. "Holding Out For A Hero" by Frou-Frou is a really fun song kickstarted by an interesting take on late 70's synthesizer pop and finished off with some really cool beats and interesting lyrics sung by their female lead singer. Another stand out on the CD is a song called "I'm On My Way" by Richard Price who has a real talent in the studio. Now the CD starts to slip a little...Pete Yorn sounds worn on his watery cover version of a once lively song by the much under-rated Buzzcocks of the late 70's and early 80's..check out the much better original folks. Veterans Nick Cave and Tom Waits give rather dull and to my ears typically over-rated performances from a couple of one-trick-pony's show biz probably should have left behind a long time ago. What's the charm people see or more precisely hear in their melody challenged and lyrically cliched "indy" music really? The only really bad song on the whole album is the awful re-make of " Changes" the 30 year old classic by David Bowie by "singer" Butterfly Boucher and embarrassingly...Bowie himself. Reminds one of when Sting went along with the highway robbery of his song by performing with P-Diddy at an awards show once doing the sampled version of one of his hits remade for a rap "hit"! Just terrible. Why does the recording industry insist on these kind of commercial link-ups to help fledgling careers by using true musical legends ?! I have no idea how Butterfly got a singing contract! I give this mostly very interesting sountrack a solid B for it's efforts in using challenging music that is not only good pop but at times experimental in a commercial film . Surprisingly the lesser known artists are the best here. Good job!
Free Music Review: Shrek2 Scores! Hit: 5 StarsFans of the movie(and everyone else) will be delighted by this soundtrack! The songs, including a modern take on David Bowie's "Changes" all are quality. I would reccomend this fantastic CD to anyone who enjoys variety.

Free Music Review: Both me and my son like this a lot! Hit: 4 StarsI'm a big lover of soundtracks, and "Shrek 2" is one of the better movie soundtracks I've heard in awhile.
I popped it in my car cd player not knowing what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear not just a good combination of funky, laid back, and kid friendly songs but be very much entertained by it all. I did get a little tired of hearing "La Vida Loca" after five times, cuz my son just had to hear it again and again and again, but thinking about the actors and their roles - I thought the song seemed sort of fitting.
I haven't even watched the movie yet, but this soundtrack is a cool pick for music lovers with diverse music tastes.
From a disco classic like "funkytown" to a remake of "holding out for a hero"(which I like better than the original because I didn't like Bonnie Tyler) to a Tom Wait's song about Poison and a silly karoake style version of "La Vida Loca" by Donkey(Eddie Murphy)& Puss in Boots(Antonio Banderas), it could possibly enterain masses of people who really liked the movie and thought "I like that song." Like many of the soundtracks I like, there is quite a variety of musical genres. I thought it was all mixed together quite well.
