Free Music Notes for Shrek 2Free Music Review: A good, solid mix of tunes. Hit: 4 StarsThe best part about this CD is that it's exactly what it claims to be: a soundtrack. Not a "Best of" or "Selections from" collection, but a soundtrack that leaves nothing out. It captures the film's personality expertly. And what a personality it is! This is an album that runs the gamut of emotions, from the cheerful groove of "Funkytown" and the driving energy of "Holding Out for a Hero" to the brooding "People Ain't No Good" and the outright desperation of "I Need Some Sleep." The individual songs are idiosyncratic, and taken as a whole package they're a step away from your everyday soundtrack. The much-praised single "Accidentally in Love" actually suffers compared to the rest of the album, becoming the bland pop love song amidst a sea of colorful tunes. The decision to include the "in-character" music was definitely the right one -- from the moment I walked out of the theater I knew that my decision to buy the sountrack would hinge on the inclusion of Jennifer Saunders' version of "Holding Out For A Hero" -- but while the end of the film was a riot to watch, as a song "Livin' La Vida Loca" is showing its age. I don't feel that this is something you can blame the album for, though. Overall, this is a great CD and a worthy addition to your collection. The only reason I knocked off one star is that there are one or two songs that have yet to grow on me. Normally I wouldn't be so harsh about it, but when the rest of the CD grabbed me so intently that gap is hard to bridge.
Free Music Review: Accidentally in Love is all that matters... Hit: 5 StarsI'm going to be straightforward. I haven't heard the soundtrack. I'm not going to buy it because if I did, I'd really only be buying one track - "Accidentally in Love" by the Counting Crows. I lost my sanity after hearing it about... oh... three times. That was about a week ago. Since then I'd say I've listened to this song about 200 times and maybe 10 or so other songs. It is all consuming. It doesn't matter, the rest of the album could be 50 minutes of Orcas screaming over the sound of nails on a chalkboard, I wouldn't care. This song is all there is. It has made the rest of the music in my life obsolete. Adam Duritz, I am at your mercy.
Free Music Review: Great soundtrack Hit: 5 StarsThis soundtrack is so smooth and really gets me through my day. I'm so glad I bought it. My favorite song is "On My Way" by Rich Price. I bought his album "Night Opens" and have not removed it from my car stereo in weeks. He can sing to me any day.
Free Music Review: Unmemorable soundtrack Hit: 1 StarsI don't understand why some people like this soundtrack. There's really nothing special about the songs here. Very bland music, just like the film which merely recycles used ideas. A forgettable release.
Free Music Review: absolutely wonderful! Hit: 5 StarsThis CD is full of wonderful songs. My two favorites are Accidently in Love by Counting Crows and Holding out for a Hero by Jennifer Saunders. All of the songs are increadibly well placed in the movie, too. I definatly recommend this CD to everyone from 6-100 and on.
