Free Music Notes for Some People Have Real ProblemsFree Music Review: Goog but not great Hit: 3 StarsI thought the CD was good and worth the $$. But I expected more. I think she is better with a band like Zero 7. But I do think she is amazingly talented and I do wish her the best.
Free Music Review: Sia (See-ah) Is Magnificent Hit: 5 StarsSia vocally sounds like a blend of Stevie Nicks, Ani Difranco, Pat Benetar and herself. Everything from the songwriting to the production to her beautiful voice is exquisite...Thank you Starbucks for featuring this wonderful artist and introducing her to me.
Free Music Review: Better with Zero 7 than solo Hit: 3 StarsI bought this CD based on Sia's vocals with Zero 7. But without the influence of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker, Sia's voice sounds less trippy and distinctive and more run-of-the-mill talented. She has a good voice, but this production is so commercial that I couldn't get nearly as interested as I wanted. I'll play it on occasion, especially the fine track "Playground," but for real flavor, it's back to Zero 7.
Free Music Review: Amazing in concert Hit: 5 StarsMy first review. Let me be quick and to the point. I saw Sia on Late Night with Conan (I'd put the link but NBC removed it from youtube.... lame)and don't think I've ever heard of anything quite like her. She also has a cute personality. Anyways I looked her up and bought this album and love it. I went to her website and she was playing in Salt Lake City in 2 weeks so my wife and I went and thought she was great. I can not believe what an amazing voice she has in person... no mixing just an awesome voice. I can't wait for her to come back after her next album.
Free Music Review: Interesting...................... Hit: 5 StarsMy daughter works at Starbucks, and recommended this to me; she said it was "quirky" enough that I would like it. She knows me pretty well....took a couple of listens, but it grows on you.....
Some of the subjects dealt with here are pretty grim, but the album itself is not. "Little Black Sandals" carry a girl away from an abusive relationship....and several other songs confront the same theme. The evils of addiction are covered, too; "The Girl You Lost to Cocaine" [self evident enough]?, and "Death by Chocolate". Still, the record is upbeat, and fun to listen to. "Some People Have Real Problems", but they don't HAVE to destroy, or depress the listener.
Sia has a very pleasant voice, and benefits from good back-up. And, at 59'+, you get your money's worth. Far from standard fare; as my daughter said, "quirky" [of course, the cover photo lets you know that]. Still, I like it, and I bet you will, too.
