Free Music Notes for Some People Have Real ProblemsFree Music Review: Wonderfully Insightful and Engaging Album Hit: 5 StarsI think the reason I like Sia's new album - Some People Have Real Problems - so much is because it combines my two favorite aspects of great music: fun, ear-catching melodies and thoughtful lyrics. I often find myself forgiving a musician's boring compositions for their insightful lyrics. Or, on the other hand, I find myself ignoring shallow lyrics for fun beats. Luckily, I don't have to disregard anything while listening to "Some People Have Real Problems."
The obvious comparison to this album is Feist's now-famous "The Reminder." Both albums present fun folk tunes sung by fragile, mellow voices. I find myself enjoying "Some People Have Real Problems" more simply because it is more consistent. While "The Reminder" features some wonderful songs, there are also a few throw-aways. On the other hand, I have found myself listening to "Some People Have Real Problems" in its entirety multiple times. What is a better test of a great album than how often and how completely you listen to it?
I would recommend this album to fans of Tori Amos, Feist, Leona Naess, and Beck (who contributes to multiple tracks here). It's gentle electronic folk music that will make you think, make you smile, and make you press repeat so you can memorize the lyrics.
Free Music Review: Sia a new discovery! Hit: 5 StarsI don't normally do this sort of thing - Give reviews that is. But I received an auto request from Amazon and being impressed with this album decided to oblige.
First I can say I realise that Sia has been around a little while (no offence intended), but I have only just come across her work and now I own three albums on the strength of this one. Of the ones I own this is certainly the best and its amazing how fresh her work remains.
I don't want to pigeon hole her work (that will be left to marketing bods). Essentially she sings and writes exceptionally good music/lyrics with obvious passion. In a word Brilliant! Go buy it!
Free Music Review: Great follow up Sia! Hit: 5 StarsI had my doubts when I saw the cover art, but I was pleasantly surprised. The songs on this cd have real attitude and are fun to listen to. However for me it is her beautiful voice I like most of all. If you are a fan of Sia or Zero 7 this is a must buy.
Free Music Review: Brilliant Hit: 5 StarsI cannot stop playing this CD. WOW! What a masterpiece! I had never heard of Sia and I saw this CD and sampled it and purchased it blindly. I am so happy that I did. She is a brilliant singer/songwriter that needs more buzz, especially with a lot of junk that is out there right now.
Some People Have Real Problems is a very pop/piano driven/melodic CD with great lyrics and she has a great, soulful voice to boot. It reminds me a bit of Tori Amos minus the melancholy and sadness. Sia has more up-tempo songs as well as slower ballads. I have owned this CD for about 3 weeks now and I play it almost every day if not every other day.
Standout tracks:
"The Girl You Lost To Cocaine" - great ditty that will get your toes tapping and have you singing along to it in no time.
"Lentil" - is a nice slower is song that is driven by great melody and a strong hook.
"Playground" is my favorite song on this CD. SUPER catchy with great lyrics. A nice up-tempo song that screams radio all over it.
Those are just a few of my favorites. There is not one song on this set that I skip. They are all standouts in my book. This is someone you should be listening to!!!!

Free Music Review: Some people have REAL psychedelia Hit: 5 StarsSia's "Some people have REAL problems" aptly sums up the beginning of this year. Thankfully, this album is as comforting as a cup of hot mint cocoa. Aussie diva Sia Furler's new album is a contrast with her more somber "Colour the Small One." She has an American girlfriend, she's got RAINBOWS! UNICORNS! CLOWNS!
"Some people have REAL problems" opens with the optimistic "Little Black Sandals." It's about the escape from an abusive relationship. "Lentil" and "You have been loved" recast romantic cliches with an innovative, soulful electro-pop sound. "The girl you lost to cocaine" takes a cynical, zippy spin on a somber subject (sort of like Colbie Caillat's sappy "Midnight Bottle"-the most peppy song about alcoholism) "Soon we'll be found" is a hopeful anthem. "Electric Bird" is also anthemic;it would be fitting on a television soundtrack. "Beautiful Calm Driving" is soothing trip-hop,a road trip song. Very trippin'. "Death by chocolate" sounds another optimistic note-complete with a backing chorus of the Scientologists Giovanni Ribisi&his daughter Lucia,as well as Jason Lee. Pantera is also on it. The highlights are the nerdy love duet with Beck "Academia",the Eastern-sounding "Playground" and the playful dysfunctional relationship song "Buttons."
"Some people have REAL problems" is Sia's playful US debut of sorts. Its blend of earthiness, mysticism, and soul makes it a winning combination. Sia calls herself Lady Croissant;her music is delicious. Drink it down with some peppy coffee! With chocolate of course...
