Free Music Review: More soul, less fluff
Hit: 4 Stars

Colour the Small One was great but there was something about it that just didn't sit well with me. This one delivers, and it delivers a lot. Sia really breaks it down vocally on this one, and it gave me chills on first listen...and second...and third. Especially "Lentil." I hope this song is HUGE because it soars high above any recent efforts by the Christina/Beyonce/Celine crowd and deserves radio airplay. And then that key change at the end...that's when I realized I loved this album. I was going to write my favorite tracks on here but I love almost all of them, except for "Playground," and even that one is tolerable. Great job, Sia! Thanks for helping start 2008 out with awesomeness.

Free Music Review: Another Great Sia Album
Hit: 4 Stars

Suprisingly my introduction to Sia was fairly new, and it wasn't "Breathe Me" that got me hooked although I had unknowingly heard this song time and time again, and never new who sung it. My introduction to Sia came by way of Starbucks/Itunes was doing a free music card give aways with a purchase of a drink and one day I picked up a free card to Sia's " A Day Too Soon", when I heard it I was instantly hook and promptly downloaded the rest of her albums. For those of you who haven't heard her I would decribe her sound as Dido meets Nelly Furtado( circa Whoa Nelly not Loose) with the soulful sound of an Amy Winehouse, some of the quirky-ness of Bjork and a dash of Alanis Morrisette for good measure. My current favorites off "Some People Have Real Problems" have to be:
"Beautiful Calm Driving"

"Little Black Sandals"

"You have been loved"

and of course

"Buttons"

"Day too soon"

"The girl you lost to cocaine"

Free Music Review: A departure of sorts
Hit: 4 Stars

Those who know Sia Furler from her outstanding work with Zero 7 - or even her previous solo album "Colour the Small One" - may be a bit surprised by the approach she takes here. Lacking the electronic sheen of her previous work, this latest release is more straight-up pop-soul, but it mostly works very well. The lead-off track "Little Black Sandals" should be a radio hit (if radio had any intelligent life) and throughout, Sia's distinctive vocals come through loud and clear. It's hard to believe she's still so young, since it seems like she's been around for a while. But up to now she's been kind of a figure in the background, with one of those voices that makes you grab the track listings on a CD and search desperately for the singer's name. With this record, she steps out of the shadows and into the spotlight. I hope it brings her the attention she deserves.

Some People Have Real Problems
Missing the Zero 7 musical accompaniment, and liking Sia's voice, I tried this album but can't dig it. Sounds like Jewel or some similar ilk. Almost too much singing 'in the forefront' and this is too much w/ her voice. She needs interludes of music to complement her talents. Just my opinion. Fantastic artist, though.

Free Music Review: Great Listen
Hit: 5 Stars

This was worth the wait as the followup to her 1st album that contained the closing theme for Six Feet Under "Breathe Me." Good lyrics, good music and awesome vocals.
