Free Music Review: Pure Rage Hit: 5 StarsWhat can I say that hasnt already been said about this album? Not much. This is one of their strongest releases, and flows perfectly. Much more akin to older releases like 'Built To Last' than to more recent ones like 'Call To Arms' and 'Yours Truly'
Free Music Review: SOIA: Stronger than ever! Hit: 4 StarsSince they debuted in the late 1980s, Sick Of It All have always been one of the frontrunners for the New York Hardcore scene. Now, on their seventeenth anniversary of being a band, these four stalwarts seem to want to send a message to younger generations, and tell everybody who doesn't already know that Hot Topic, black eyeliner, guitar solos, progressive touches, and radio-friendly melody have absolutely no place in real hardcore. SOIA do this by releasing 2006's "Death To Tyrants," which is their eighth full-length, and is also doubtlessly the band's heaviest and all-around strongest and most consistent effort to date.
Sick Of It All keep things simple on "Death To Tyrants," and stick to the "bare bones" sound - consisting of only simple yet effective and headbanging riffs, ripping guitar leads, pummeling drums, forceful, driving rhythms, screamed vocals, inspired, vitriolic lyrics, and memorable, shout-or-chant-along choruses. Top it all off with a crisp production job, and the final sound is very muscular, hard, heavy, and bludgeoning.
The album begins with a sure-to-be-classic. "Take The Night Off" storms out of the starting gate with a strong guitar lead, and an explosive, instantly catchy and memorable gang-shouted chorus ("Let's celebrate that we don't give a (blank)!") really drives the song home, and makes the band's point clear in none-too-subtle terms. Other standouts are the churning, industrial strength lead behind "Machete"; the hooky, head-bobbing rhythm and inspirational chant of "Rise up!" on "Uprising Nation"; the uncompromising hardcore stomp of "Evil Schemer"; the blistering sneak attack that is "Leader"; the catchy, adherent guitar groove and walloping drums that bolster "Forked Tongue"; the surging rhythm and memorable lyrics of "Faithless"; and the irresistibly catchy "Fred Army."
This is fiery, savage, inspired hardcore done right! Debates have already and probably will continue to rage about if "Death To Tyrants" is a classic. In this writer's opinion, it is a very good, solid, enjoyable, satisfying, and frequently exhilarating album that may ultimately merit a classic status, and if not, then it is at least a hardcore classic for the new millennium.
Free Music Review: (4.5 stars) The Hardcore king has once said.... "Let's celebrate that we don't give a f**k!! Hit: 5 StarsThis album is the best out of all my CD collection! It's loud! It's heavy! It's HARDCORE! (And to those who don't know hardcore, it's not metal!) Songs "Take The Night Off", "Uprisng Nation", "Evil Schemer", "Leader", "Make A Mark", "Forked Tongue", "The Reason", and "Faithless", whichis almost half of the album! This would be better off without "Preamble" and "Fred Army". This would perfect for a lot of hardcore fans! They've been a band for more than 20 years, and still good. The guitars are thick, non-throaty shouting vocals, and good drumnming. Some of the songs might have similiar beginnings, but I think that's common with many bands that has been in a band for a long period of time. The drumming is good, so fast. Love the guy's vocals! Nice job, boys! GET THIS!!!
