Free Music Review: A few problems with the sound
Hit: 3 Stars

Other reviewers have aptly and accurately commented on the musical content so I will simply add that, yes, it's all like mid-fifties Big Band sounds with some electronic sound effects, a la "Forbidden Planet", added over the music.

No one has commented on the recorded sound however and here is the slight weakness of the disc. This was originally recorded for Vik, which if memory serves me right, was one of RCA's budget labels and the recording definitely did not benefit for the advances in sound that RCA was developing for their premium "Living Stereo" label. The sound is boxy, closed in, cramped in both the base and treble and generally sounds wooly and opaque. It is never less than listenable and your ears gradually adjust to the sound but you also will be constantly aware of the recording's sonic shortcomings. Some mid-fifties recordings can sound wonderful (see my review of Georgie Auld"s "Sax Gone Latin" for one such.) but this disc truly shows its age.

Despite my reservations, this is still an essential CD for the collector of Lounge, Electronica or Space-Age Pop, since it is one of the first, if not the first Space-Age Pop recordings. It belongs in the collection of everyone who collects these genres. You will just want to know that the sound isn't what it could have been.

Free Music Review: There's nothing "out of this world" about From Another World
Hit: 4 Stars

Before buying this album, I had not heard any of it or knew much about it. I had keep seeing this album pop up on websites and thought it looked interesting. I had may assumptions of what this album problably sounded like.
Being a collector of early electronic, exotica/lounge and jazz records, I assumed I would hear something similar to recordings by artists such as esquivel, les baxter, attilio mineo and the like. It seemed like a must have. Upon my first listening, I soon discovered to my discontent that this was not a very outer spacy recording at all. This was a classic big band record.
After a few listens it grew on me. It is an interesting experience, full wonderful orchestral sounds. If you are a fan of big band, this is worth listening to......but don't expect to be transported into space.

Free Music Review: HIGH FIDELITY
Hit: 4 Stars

THIS IS ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE EARLY RCA "HIGH FIDELTIY" RECORDING RECORDS, RELEASED IN 1956. EVERY SONG'S TITLE HAS TO DO WITH THE MOON, THE SUN, STARS, OR THE WEATHER, THUS THE NOMENCLATURE "FROM ANOTHER WORLD". ALSO, EACH SONG HAS AN EERIE, OTHER-WORLDLY INTRO TO IT, THEN DEVOLVES INTO STANDARD POP BIG BAND DANCE MUSIC. REMINDS ME OF ESQUIVEL AND HIS "SPACE AGE BACHELOR PAD MUSIC" SOUND. GOOD ARRANGEMENTS.
