Free Music Review: Doesn't work as well as it could, but...

Much of what is here will annoy many people. (Which is unfortunately quite clear from the other reviews) There is considerable "dead space" where all you hear is the music boxes tinkling and whirring, and track three, "Di Do," becomes a cacaphony of screeching noise almost as soon as it really gets going. However, once you realize that what you are hearing is only half of the intended work (it was originally written as improvisational background music for also-improvised dance), you begin to realize just how powerful those moments of near silence and unexpected noise would be in the original visual performance.

All that being said, this is still a worthwhile purchase, even though it's only the audio half of a pair of performances. Track two, "Ti Ki," is a wonderful piece of music. One of my all time favorite Sigur Ros compositions. And track three, "Di Do," is a very strong piece as well. It's only too bad that it isn't a bit longer to compensate for the too abrupt (without the visuals) degeneration into 'noise.' And, Track one, "Ba Ba," isn't bad either. But it did get old for me relatively quickly, due to the fact that it pales in comparison to the other two.

So, in short, don't give up on this. It will not be what you expect, but that's part of what makes Sigur Ros so special. They've written/released at least nine albums worth of material to date, if you include "Odin's Raven Magic," and not one of the releases is a rehash of previous work.

Bravo Sigur Ros for continuing to be inventive.
