Free Music Notes for Ba Ba Ti Ki Di DoFree Music Review: It's not bad.... Hit: 4 Stars
This is pretty good for an EP. I'm glad I didn't spend way too much on this though. Ba Ba and Ti Ki are both equally good songs in my opinion, and Di Do is the best once it really gets going, unfortunately it doesn't last as long as the screeching mess that comes after it. Should've been the other way around.
If you can find this for a reasonable price and you're into Sigur Ros, get this.
Free Music Review: Clarifications Hit: 4 Stars
To clarify shaunrx's review, this was recorded in the band's studio in Iceland. The band recorded this between the first (NYC) and second (Paris) performances.Having said that, this may not be what you expect from Sigur Ros, but it is still a wonderful release. Free Music Review: Underrated Hit: 4 Stars
Everyone seems to hate this release, but I like it a lot. It's nice to listen to while drifting off to sleep, and I disagree with anyone who says that it is, "a waste of money". Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do may not be perfect, but most followers of the band will not be disappointed.
Free Music Review: A law unto themselves Hit: 3 Stars
I've listened to this twenty minute piece of music once. I found it moderately appealing. People who don't consider this to really be Sigur Ros, have obviously not listened to the first album, Von. Is this a step back instead of forward? It could be viewed that way, perhaps, but that's too artificial an approach, I suspect. Sigur Ros is about doing anything at all . . . whatever the group feel like doing . . . and at this point, they obviously wanted to do an experimental piece. If their next album is along these lines, without actual songs, it will be an undeniable disappointment, but there's no reason to believe that will be the case. Does it compare to their best work? No, it certainly doesn't. But it isn't an album, after all. It's a twenty minute piece of experimental music. Is it great experimental music? No, I don't think it is. Is it interesting? Yes. The best stage of the piece is definitely the third stage, 'Di Do', with the vocal samples. After the slowness of the first two stages, it comes across as quite vital in its composition. The first stage is basically a fragmentary composition played on a child's music box. The second stage appears to mix the music box sounds, with the sounds you get when you press buttons on a phone . . . it's quite original and appealing. And despite what other reviewers have said, you can just hear Jonsi on the third stage, amid the samples (hardly at all, in truth, but you can hear him). It's very easy to dismiss this kind of work. It can seem indulgent and dissatisfactory. But you have to enter the spirit of the piece, otherwise there is indeed no point owning it. If you're a genuine Sigur Ros fan, you're going to make the effort, and not dismiss the experiment. What Ros fan doesn't prefer the vocal/song-based material? Because of the interstellar voice of Jonsi, the most unique and beautiful voice since Liz Fraser. But at the same time, if you approach this piece as an instrumental experiment, you won't feel the resentment and disappointment that some fans have obviously felt. Sigur Ros, after all, are really the only group that matters in the twenty first century. They should not be placed alongside any other group, or compared to any group. They work apart from everyone else. This is the latest stage in their journey. It should not be dismissed.
Free Music Review: This is NOT a studio album! Hit: 3 Stars
I have never written a review before, however, it seems as though there is some confusion about this Sigur Ros release judging by the reviews so far. This is NOT a studio album. These three tracks were improvised and recorded on October 14th, 2003 as part of The Merce Cunningham Dance Company's performance "Split Sides" which was performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The performance incorporated two separately designed pieces of scenery, costume, music and choreography which were then paired at random. The other musical "side" was performed by Radiohead. You can read more about the recording and its performance on Sigur Ros' website.
