Free Music Notes for Hvarf / Heim (Dig)Free Music Review: Either You Get It or You Don't Hit: 4 Stars
The title of this review may sound harsh and pretentious but with a band like Sigur Ros, my title rings true. If you read other reviews on this double album, you know what the contents are. It is a reworking of older songs which is done beautifully. While some songs have been more stripped of production on the acoustic disc, it is as I agree with other reviewers, a tad disappointing.
But...If you look at the whole spectrum of Sigur Ros' work; what worlds they are really trying to convey, the haunting side projects like the Riceboy Sleeps picture book/songs and Hlemmur soundtrack, the sometimes awkwardly/childlike interviews, the soon to be released DVD - It's all a great blissful package if "You Get It".
So with that said, this double album is more of like an encore presentation for the people who really love and understand what's behind the bands creative intentions. If you're a more surface Sigur Ros fan then you may want to save your money.
Free Music Review: magic in a bottle...on a cd Hit: 4 Stars
sigur ros have found a way to put magic in a bottle...and then put it onto a cd. "hvarf/heim" is the fifth release from the icelandic boys (and girls if you include amiina, their string section). many reviewers have failed to recognise that this double cd is a companion to the dvd release of "heima." this accounts for the lack of new material...it features only three new tracks. the other tracks are reworked or acoustic versions of previously released songs.
fans will not be disappointed, however new listeners may wish to start with one of their "five star" albums, such as "takk" or ().
this band makes (arguably) the most unique and atmospheric music of our time. they are without equal, having a sound and a feel which is completely their own. this record stands as another testament to this fact. buy it...and enjoy.
Free Music Review: "live" not really live (thank goodness) Hit: 4 Stars
A 2-cd ep of recordings. The one disc is a new 5 song studio disc of mostly unreleased recordings , whilst the other disc is a "live" reworking of 6 songs. Gotta admit , when I first heard that the one disc was "live"-it made me shudder. To think we would have a recording of this beautiful band , that uses full-range dynamics , interrupted by whoops , hollers , and wolf whistles , was more than I could take. But , upon listening , it was determined that this was not the case (thank goodness)> If you've looked up this recording , you're probably familiar with the band. If you're familiar with the band , you probably like the band. If you like the band , you'll enjoy this release. Buy it now.
Free Music Review: Ear Delicious Hit: 4 Stars
Sonic awesomeness!Keep in mind folks, this is some of the music from the film Heima, a RETROSPECTIVE you knuckleheads. A couple new tunes. I think the 'electric' is better than the acoustic and I find I Gaer just incredible. I really don't understand the critique that the song is bombastic. It is soaring. Also remember, this band makes music THEY love. They don't make music for us. If we like it, great. If not, great.
Having been to Iceland, the music just fits the country. If you have not been, plan a trip sometime. Incredibly gorgeous but bring lots of money!!!
My favorite song is Hafsol. Bring tears to my eyes every time.
Enjoy! (or not :))
Free Music Review: Great sound!!! Hit: 4 Stars
If you like ethereal soundscapes this is a great CD. If you like to hear lyrics this is probably not for you. I personally like hearing the sound of Icelandic and Sigur Ros' own made up language (it's hard to tell which is which). Mixed with the atmospheric music, the songs are haunting and beautiful. The song Hljómalind sounds almost like a "pop" song and is very catchy.
