Free Music Notes for Sigur RósFree Music Review: Music that touches you in places that you forgot existed... Hit: 5 Stars
Let me start by saying that as of right now this is my all-time favorite album and may have actually helped Sigur Ros to surpass my previous favorite band - the Pixies (Listen I said MAY HAVE okay? The Pixies f***ing rock). Ok. At first I was a bit disappointed - I didn't like it as much as the first album. After having the album for a few months I like this album better than the 1st. In fact I see no comparrison. I Love the Agetis Byjrum but frankly ( ) blows it out of the water (in a soothing slow-motion kind of way). Actually I once compared ( ) to watching an explosion in slow motion and I think that's acurate, 'cause although it's slow and moody, it rocks. It is just about the most potent thing I have ever experienced. The kind of thing that makes you feel like you don't know whether to cry or vomit. I'm thinking about buying an extra copy and like putting it in a vault. You have to listen to the songs multiple times to appreciate them - In some cases I feel like you really have to. Some of them will hit you right away but with others you kind of need to be able to sense what's coming and see the grand design of the songs, which takes time to perceive. Anyway this is getting long... I Love this damn CD more than just about anything, but I've found you really have to be obsessed with music to like this because friends of mine with no attention span or who aren't obsessed with music as I am are not too into it. I can't blame them - just so you know what you're getting yourself into.
Free Music Review: Their most rewarding album so far... Hit: 5 Stars
I purchased this album before Agaetis Byrjun, and I have to say I didn't like it at first. It seemed so drab, boring and uninspired. Even with me feeling this way at the time, they still interested me and compelled me to check out Agaetis Byrjun which I immediately loved. I loved it so much it was all I listened to for about a month. After that amount of time with a record, one tends to get a bit bored of it, and I did slightly get bored of it but in a way that I wanted more. Oh wait! I realized I had purchased ( ) about four months before and had almost forgot about it. I went into it cautiously because of my previous experience with it, but listened with my newly trained ears. It started to grow on me, and I started interchanging my listening choices between ( ) and Agaetis Byrjun pretty evenly. One day I was listening to them back to back and all of the energy from Agaetis Byrjun got sucked away and was thrown into ( ). I couldn't believe how much better ( ) was getting with each listen! It has been about four months since that happened, and ( ) shows no sign of losing any of its subtle (and sometimes not) intensity. I really have no way of describing what happened because I don't quite understand it myself. All I know is ( ) towers over all of the other cds I own in terms of quality, emotion and creativity. Don't buy this album because I love it, buy it so you can begin your own relationship and journey with this cd. You shouldn't be dissapointed!
Free Music Review: A Masterpiece of Modern Music. Hit: 5 Stars
Sigur Rós was an unknown group with a strange name when I first heard of them while reading a concert listing. The name stuck with me, and one night I recalled the name and first heard "Vaka" (aka "Untitled 1") off "()". Since then, the Icelandic quartet has become one of my top bands. The band has an unmatched skill at absolutely swallowing the listener whole into a sea of music that encompasses everything. Quite frankly, they are the masters of atmospheric music, and "()" is their best work yet. A CD without track titles, coherent lyrics, or any liner notes, "()" is a true oddity in the modern realm of music. Though many find the band to reek of pretentiousness by being so avant-garde that the lyrics are not sung in Icelandic, but rather a fictional language called "Hopelandic," Sigur Ros is too good to be pretentious. The vocals are amazing enough when sung that, as many have said, the fictional lyrics just become another instrument, one equal with the piano and guitar that are staples of Sigur Ros's sound. Although Sigur Ros's sound on "()" is very simplistic and repeats the melody over and over, the melodies are so gorgeous and perfectly-arranged that it is impossible to avoid liking the songs. Sigur Ros is one of the best bands out there right now. "()" as an album completes their ambition as musicians, to prove that music can even in its stripped-down and pure, simple form, be as incredible as the most complex music there is.
Free Music Review: My Thoughts? Hit: 5 Stars
I really cant explain how the music of Sigur Ros makes me feel, but i'll try. I usually think of () as a sad story about a young child dealing with the loss of a loved one. Each song is like a new chapter in the story.
Many people have said this album is "boring" compared to Agaetis Byrjun. I disagree. AB showed the strong potential of Sigur Ros...displaying all their different ideas and sounds in thier music. I could easily see each song from AB made into an entire album. For Example Ny batteri sounds like a song that could easily be on (), and Olsen Olsen sounds like it could easily be on Takk.
() is more of a straight foward idea rather than AB. Do you understand what im saying?

() is my FAVORITE Sigur Ros Album.
P.S. If you really want this album to be exciting, try to think of a possible story (like i did) from listening to track 1 and let the story unfold as each song plays.

Free Music Review: Misunderstood perhaps? Hit: 5 Stars
Sigur Ros is not the "usual" kind of music. The majority of the negative reviews here state they are either pretentious, or that they cant get into the long songs and jibberish sung over the songs. The absence of liner notes, lyrics, song titles, and vocals which are meaningless in contemporary terms just enforces the belief that music is for listening. As has been stated by another reviewer, the only message they want to convey is emotion, and no other band i have come across can convey so many different ranges of emotion on such a consistant basis. It is for this reason, although they are my favorite band of all time, i dont listen to them very often. Mogwai, Godpseed, Explosions in the Sky, all have "similar" styles in music, but no one pulls it off better then Sigur Ros. This third album (Von being their first, and Agaetis Burjym being the second) is alot more relaxed than their second (and the one that made them known). For those who can't sit through the cd...Sigur Ros is not a band you blast in your car as you drive, or play at a party. It is the kind of music you listen to yourself on headphones, or when you walk by yourself on your discman. Thus, it is not for everyone. If you are more used to or would prefer more radio friendly songs, Agaetis Burjyn is probably more for you, but you might not be able to stand that either. Regardless, Sigur Ros deserves a serious listen from everyone out there.
