Free Music Review: The Most Incredible Album I've Ever Heard
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a fan of Silverchair since Frogstomp, but I want to encourage EVERYONE to buy this album. It is, quite simply, a work of art that is unlike anything I have ever heard in my life. The other albums fade in comparison, so if you didn't like Silverchair in the past, you cannot make a decision on this album until you have heard it several times. Daniel Johns wanted to offer his listener an alternate world, a place to escape to, with the depths of this music. The many layers of instruments results in a daring, unusual, beautiful and rich sound. One of the most inspiring aspects of this album, however, is the fact that this artist, who began at age 15 with a genuinely angry, sorrowful direction and even almost died of anorexia by the time the 3rd album came out, has found the beauty in life and has turned his own around. The album is positive, soulful, with some sadness but mostly radiant glory that he has succeeded and has found happiness. And he's only, what, 23 years old?

I only have one complaint - sorry Daniel Johns - which is that, at times, the amount of instrumentation is overwhelming. This album is so FULL of sound that I can't really listen to it and do anything - I have to sit down and just focus on it. There is SO much color and depth in each one of these songs, that listening to them is like taking a journey into another world for an hour. Transformative. But thick, it could be a little thinner at times, although that would have been sacrificing the central idea I think.

I absolutely agree that this album is the best of 2002, and probably the best that I have ever heard.

Buy it - you will not be disappointed!

Free Music Review: My take on Diorama
Hit: 5 Stars

The latest album from Australian super-rockers Silverchair has caused quite a stir in and amoungst the rock world. These young lads broke onto the scene back in the mid-90's with their debut album 'frogstomp' and have been headed up-hill ever since. This latest effort is no exception. Taking on a completly different style from previous albums the boys have added a full-orchestra to the mix instead of the slow, melodic, and sometimes monotone string arrangements. This work is one that I would call a must have for anyone who is a rock fan or just anyone looking for something that dosen't fall into the bland catagory of typical pop-rock. I would call this a very ambitous work and a work of genious. Daniel Johns has once again proven himself to be able to stand amoungst the great song writters of our time. To make this a good review I have to point out the bad and the good. The bad on this album is very hard to find but it is there. Some of the songs (i.e. 'Tuna in the brine') aren't for the typical pop-rocker. Some tracks are much more on the arty side of the genre and really there's nothing wrong with that it's just not going to appeal to everyone. It's a good thing that this wasn't a debut album for these guys because i just don't feel it would have gone over as well if it were. I also don't think this album is going to be fully appreciated for at least another five years because of the a.d.d. nature of the typical radio listener (no offense intended by that last remark). Anyway if you think you're ready for something different and exciting go buy this album, don't get your friend to burn it for you it's worth every penny.

Free Music Review: This Album Rocks!
Hit: 5 Stars

I was first introduced to Silverchair through Heath Ledger, who has said to be a fan of theirs, and the movie Blackrock which they supposively have a couple of songs on. Then I starting downloading their stuff and thought they were a pretty good band. Their are two major similarities that I see between Nirvana and Silverchair- their odd but lovable and always repeatable lyrics, and the fact that every song they sing gets into your head, whether it's one you really like, or one that is just okay. I bought this album because of the raving reviews. When I first heard it, I was a little disappointed. However, I listened to it a second time and then I absolutely fell in love with it. I have NO IDEA was I was so stupid to think that this cd was okay. I love EVERYTHING about this cd, and if you're a new Silverchair fan, or have an appreciation whatsover for good music, you should definately get this cd, it's worth the price. I listen to this cd EVERY DAY. Daniel Johns did a wonderful job co-producing this album, and his voice is even more attractive then himself. This has to be, without a doubt, one of the best albums ever. I believe that it took over 2 years to make, and not a minute was wasted. I also believe it suits people with all types of music tastes. I have friends that listen to pure country that like this, my mum who listens to classical music and likes this, my younger sister who listens to pop and likes this, my older sister who listens to rock and likes this. Seriously, you should definately pick up this album and if I haven't convinced you I don't know who will.

Free Music Review: Amazing, diversified, colorful. A work of art.
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is what I would deem a modern masterpiece. Highly creative with a wide variety of instrumentals, it isn't your typical rock album. Horns, strings and piano ballads are found alongside crunching guitars.

Some fans think of this album as selling out, but how? They haven't made the album any more commercial than their previous work - in fact it may be harder for new listeners. There's a great diversity of songs with great melodies and harmonies, and it touches on the experimentation they worked with on "Emotion Sickness".

Across the Night starts the album off and the listener knows it is not typical Silverchair. A piano opens the song before it explodes into a broadway jazz-style horns section. The Greatest View is one of the greatest rock songs in Silverchair's catalogue.

Tuna in the Brine takes some unique song structures with more broadway-esque instrumentals. Love your Life sounds like something they'd play on adult contemporary, but Silverchair puts a great spin on it. Other recommendations include the piano ballad "After All These Years" (plus the beautiful "secret" piano ending 2 minutes afterwards) and "My Favorite Thing". Fans of heavy material will find solace in hearing "One Way Mule".

I actually found this fresh and unique album more enjoyable than the rest of their catalogue, which more often than not ends up being just formulaic grunge rock (except for Neon Ballroom). Very good effort, Silverchair! A highly recommended listen for people interested in any genre of music.

Free Music Review: The Evolution of Silverchair
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this cd three days ago and it's been living in my player ever since. It was astonishing to hear their different kind of music, something new to the ears. It has a more redefined sound to it as the orchestra and the band complement each other. The first four songs made me buy this album. When I heard Across the Night, I was completely blown away. The harpsichord played a remarkable role as the song began. It was so catchy it got stuck in my head. The Greatest View, Without You and World Uopn Your Shoulders has the same effect on me too. I can't stop myself from singing along to it. The way the song hits you is just...totally indescribable! If you're using earphones, evry single detail will soothe you. I can't describe all the songs for I haven't got enough space. Their lyrics have grown deeper too, up to you to find out...
In the cd inlet, it said that "Diorama" was made without using pitch correction software. This technology 'corrects' notes that are sung or played out of tune and it has become increasingly popular in recent years. Silverchair chose not to use this computer software on their album as it s their personal belief that such artificial perfection dimishes music. Amen to that indeed.
In addition, Daniel expanded his musical horizons for he does not just bang on his guitar but plays the piano and the harpsichord as well.
This album is worth your bucks people! Run to your nearest music store before it's too late.
Behold the evolution.
