Free Music Notes for Diorama

Free Music Review: Music - the way it's meant to be.
Hit: 5 Stars

It's so refreshing in this day and age to witness a band that has enough integrity to be original. Artists like Britney being classed as 'rock' should give you a clear enough indication that music just isn't what it used to be. When it comes to great music, just like great art, to try and 'fit' it in to a certain standard is to take away from it's true beauty.
Such is silverchair's lastest effort Diorama. The Newcastle trio consisting of Daniel Johns, Chris Joannou and Ben Gillies have imagined a masterpiece that no genre in the world could possibly describe. Right away we're taken into a different world, a perhaps unexpected place, with the opening track "Accross the Night". And that's just the beginning.
We are presented the ballad like track "Without You" and musical masterpiece "Tune In The Brine". The upbeat "Luv Your Life" continues the journey as we get a real taste of John's lyrical talents, and perhaps up until now, unheard vocal abilities.
The out of tune notes on the album definately add to the flavour of Diorama. We end up in a place that no silverchair fan of old would ever have expected to be - Daniel Johns, a piano and the occasional violin.

The album is a breath of fresh air. The band has arguably become one of the most original and talened groups of today. Diorama is by far the best album to date of 2002. There's no glossy finish here. Just music. The way it's meant to be played.

Free Music Review: Simply Amazing! The True Definition of Music!
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay, first of all let me say that I would give this album six stars if it was possible. Second, I also want to make it clear that some of the reviews for this album here on Amazon should be ignored. I saw one review with three stars, and another review with only one star. ANYBODY WHO GIVES THIS ALBUM LESS THAN FIVE STARS DOES NOT KNOW WHAT GOOD MUSIC IS.

I have every Silverchair album since Frogstomp. In the beginning, I thought they were just another grunge band along the lines of Nirvana but without the "Seattle sound". After I heard Neon Ballroom I realized that they were definitely maturing as musicians. They were evolving from their early cliche grunge sound with the use of the Sydney Symphony and classic pianist David Helfgott. I believe Neon Ballroom did not receive the recognition it deserved because of the depressing mood it radiated with every song. Rumor has it that Daniel Johns was suffering from anorexia and depression during the making of the album, hence the dark and depressing sound.

What Silverchair has accomplished in Diorama is an amazing journey through the sounds of every emotion, from love to hate to happiness and back again. They increased their use of the symphony, piano, and Daniel's amazing vocals, and the result is a perfect album that NEVER gets old. Every song is great and gets better with every listen. If you're a true fan of good music, I highly recommend buying this album.

Free Music Review: Contender for Greatest Australian Album of All Time?
Hit: 5 Stars

A bold album deserves a bold claim and this masterpiece by Silverchair may just be the best album by an Australian band, ever. Funnily enough it semingly gets snobbed by the Australian media, most likely because of Daniel Johns inability to tour this album due to various ailments following the completion of the album. While it may be fine for Australians to laud ACDC, Cold Chisel and Skyhooks, it's time for a nation to wake up and realize that this album sparked the emergence of one of the greatest Australian frontmen since Michael Hutchence. Johns showed flashes of what he was capable of doing on the previous Neon Ballroom album with tracks such as Ana's Song, Emotion Sickness and Spawn Again, but put together the complete album on Diorama which shows few weaknesses. The album is full of melodic complexities and carries a fairly epic vibe throughout and the Van Dyke Parks orchestrations fit Johns compositions like hand and glove. It would be unfair to call the other members of the band a "backing" group, the unity of a group that has been playing together for well over ten years is apparent in the tightness of them playing and even more ovious in a live setting. Definite highlights on this album are "Tuna in the Brine", "World Upon Your Shoulders", "Too Much of Not Enough" and "Across the Night", they hearken back to their roots a tad on "One Way Mule" however it has a twist of maturity that was not previously seen in Silverchair rock.

Free Music Review: More than You Can Imagine
Hit: 5 Stars

Silverchair has come a very long way since their debut album, "Frogstomp". In fact, their newest CD, "Diorama" is possibly one of the most brilliant albums ever to be released in the history of rock. Not bad for a few guys who seemed to get stuck in the "post grunge" category, even though every album since their first has inched upward towards a higher musical notch, largely due to singer/songwriter Daniel John's glorious writing ability. But without a doubt, Johns has taken the band much further than before with this new record.

From the first track, "Across The Night", which opens like a miniature symphony into an epic full of poetic lyrics, your senses are relinquished from the everyday songs on the radio and pulled straight ahead for the musical ride that is "Diorama".
The ride doesn't stop, with amazing songs such as the emotional pseudo-opera "Tuna In the Brine", the brilliantly orchestrated "Luv Your Life" and the best music and lyrics Johns has ever done; "After All These Years".

There is no fear on this record. No fear of what people may think, even though we live in such a time where the typical is all that is given a chance to be heard. And perhaps this record may be too much for some to comprehend, at least at first listen, but give this record time... In years to come, it will be hailed as a ground breaking triumph.

Free Music Review: Shocking
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been an american fan of Silverchair since I first heard "Tomorrow" on a local radio station. I've faithfully bought each of their CDs on the release date, sometimes before as was the case with Diorama. I found an import copy in a store at the end of July and didn't hesitate to snatch it up, disregarding the ... price tag. It was worth every cent. 3 days after purchasing this amazing piece of art, I was forced to move halfway across the country. It was a heart-wrenching experience and I was drained emotionally and physically. Diorama has been predominantly the only music I've listened to since that task (the only other would be older Silverchair CDs). The CD is absolutely drenched in creativity and supreme talent. Daniel Johns has stretched himself vocally, doing things with his voice I never thought I could or would hear. The music is whimsical, enchanting, genius. I can listen to the entire album 6 times in a row and not skip any song, but listen to some 3 times at once. I don't believe I own any other album that I can say I do the same thing with. I highly recommend this CD to any type of music lover, young or old. I've heard hundreds of Silverchair nonfans say this album has made them a fan. Diorama is an instant classic, no matter how well-known it becomes. I wish Johns the best of luck with his illness and I hope he can fully recover and continue to do what he loves and share it with the world.
