Free Music Review: Maturity
Hit: 5 Stars

Here is a little background: The members of Silverchair were 15 years old when their debut album Frogstomp came out. This was in 1995 and they were a group of very very very talented kids that listened to and made songs like Nirvana. They were a grunge group.

Guess what...they have grown up now. They have matured musically and it shows, but they haven't forgotten their roots. Many people don't like it when a band stays in the same music formula the entire time and others don't like it once they have changed their style. Silverchair brings the old together with the new on this album. They still have their grunge roots in songs like "The Level" and "One Way Mule". Now they have their new songs such as "Across the Night" and "Tuna in the Brine" which are a mix of the band and an orchestra. If anyone says that the band isn't playing their instruments in these songs obviously can only hear drums, bass, and guitar when it is pounding in their ears. Every one of their songs has those elements mixed in. The fact that those elements don't stand out make it a wonderfully produced cd. Everything from the horns to the bass to the drums has importance in these songs, if one was to stand out you would be missing so much musically.

This is Silverchair's best album to date. It isn't complete angst or pure smooth flowing melodies. It is a beautiful mix of both.

Free Music Review: Best new album of the year !!!
Hit: 5 Stars

i like silverchair and they made great rock music in their first album (even though they ripped of nirvana and pearl jam here and there) they second and third albums were also good but short of briliant.
the neon ballroom cd is a wierd cd as far as silverchair goes, you could clearly hear that they got somekind of new direction but the album just didn't make it to that point.
thie album (diorama) hits the point and goes over it by far. this is one of the most amazing albums ever came out in the popular music category and with no doubt the best silverchair album up to date and i'm telling you right now that i don't know if daniel could ever match it's quality on future albums.
this is a 100% different silverchair, you won't hear any heavy metal or grunge licks that you can identify from other cds - this stuff is completly new and pure. the music is very melodic and the lyrics are surly the best daniel wrote untill now and i could just talk on and on about the production - it's perfect! the songs have a mellon collie feeling and they are powerful even without daniel's soldano amps set all the way to 10, you could also see the change within his gear - he uses less PRS guitars on this album and more rickenbarcker :)
in short - buy this cd if you want to buy anything even if you don't like silverchair, don't worry it's a new band!

Free Music Review: most amazing cd ever
Hit: 5 Stars

Silverchair's new album "Diorama" is absolutley amazing, it is by far their best album yet, in fact in my opinion it is the greatest ablum ever made, my opinion may be biased because i am a huge silverchair fan and think they are the best band ever, but even so this is a album you cant afford to miss. It is so much different than thier past ones, because of the different types of songs on the cd. One song will be filled with heavy gutiar riffs, while the next will be much more mellow with amazing orchestral pieces. There are so many different melodies from song to song, it really makes the album interesting and gives you a taste of everything the band has to offer. Also with this cd the lyrics are very colorful and uplifting, something that wasnt so with their past two albums, which i think is great, you can really see Daniel growing as a lyrcist. I live in the U.S. but purchased this album from Australia when it was released there, and ever since i got it, i cannot stop listening to it, i have probably went through the whole cd over 300 times.. no joke! Anytime I am down or having a bad day, i pop in this cd, and it totally takes me to another world, where i have no worries, it totally uplifts me when i am not feeling the best. I highly recommended this album. Daniel, Chris, and Ben are genisues! keep up the good work!

Free Music Review: A magnificent album
Hit: 5 Stars

Diorama by Australian band Silverchair is a magnificent album from August 2002 that combines artful lyrics, orchestral arrangements and some delicate playing with some great songs and some strong guitar and drum playing too. I have just listened to my new copy of this album for the first time, and I immediately love it. Having been familiar only with the song The Greatest View before, I can identify several other real standouts, such as the intricate and detailed Tuna In The Brine, the delightful piano-based song After All These Years, and the memorable chorus-based tune Luv Your Life. These are not just any old songs - Silverchair's singer and lyricist Daniel Johns has composed some very fine, unique and melodically-unpredictable music that does not sound like anybody else I have ever heard. Nor does it sound all that much like Silverchair's earler albums either. No matter, this is a beautiful album that will reward many, many repeated hearings.

Note also : Silverchair have just released their latest CD called Young Modern this month; it is the next one after Diorama.

Diorama scores 5 stars for holding my undivided attention for its entire length and for being simply wonderful. Buy it if you enjoy poetic lyric writing mixed with the sound of a rock band.

Highly recommended by me.

Free Music Review: Not a Garage Band Anymore!
Hit: 5 Stars

Since their 1995 debut release "Frogstomp," Silverchair has transformed from a Nirvana style garage band to a multi-dimensional musical force. Their new release "Diorama" is a bold ambitious recording that has many critics praising this cd as one of the best of the year. The reckless abandonment that was so prevalent on the bands first three recordings has been replaced with structure, melody and lyrical eloquence. This cd has unlimited crossover potential, rock adult or modern radio could all find a song that would fit nicely into their format. Most impressive is singer /songwriter Daniel Johns' heartfelt lyrics which are profound and yet avoid sounding overly pretentious. Musically, the band ventures into the area of the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds," the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour and Lenny Kravitz style rockers. "The Greatest View,' the first single and one of the hardest rocking songs on the CD, could easily be confused with vintage Kravitz. "Across the Night," "Luv Your Life" and "My Favorite Thing" are ground breaking compositions that feature intricate orchestration and falsetto style vocals.

Silverchair should be congratulated for taking such a risk on this release. They may alienate some fans, but it's a compromise worth taking for musical growth.
