Free Music Notes for TheologyFree Music Review: music to help you survive Hit: 5 StarsSinead has never released such a consistently wonderful album. Although I could live without "I Don't Know How To Love Him", all of her original songs here are phenomenol. Highlights for me are "Whomsoever Dwells", "Something Beautiful", "Watcher of Men", and "If You Had a Vineyard". Excellent, Sinead! Please keep making music that makes living more worthwhile!
Free Music Review: Rare Depth and Beauty Hit: 5 Stars"Theology" is O'Connor's La Corona. (Poets and lovers of poetry will know what I mean.) Dublin version is more genuine and immediate, London version more inviting. As always, O'Connor has the courage to create something new and meaningful, no matter what the so-called "trends" in music may be. I cannot help but smile when I read some of the low-star reviews here, their authors' complaints about O'Connor's lyrics, vocals, and God knows what else! They must not own a calendar. O'Connor's stellar quality has evolved beautifully over the years. (Sadly, the same cannot be said about many contemporary music "stars.") Her music is not meant to entertain lazy thinkers. It is brave, genuine, uncompromising... How can one not appreciate O'Connor's talent and inner beauty when her voice nearly melts in "They dress the wounds of my poor people / As though they're nothing" ("Something Beautiful")? "Theology" is a finely wrought wreath of music, poetry, spirituality, and humanity, and should be understood as such.
Free Music Review: Different but Lovely Hit: 5 StarsI ordered this for my husband, who is a long time Sinead fan. I was a little nervous, since the reviews were not glowing, but he and I have both been glad I bought it. It is true, that it is very different from some of her other work, but that is what we love about Sinead as an artist. She never bores us and we love to go on her journey through life with her, through her music. I'm glad she does what is in her soul and doesn't bow to popular opinion. In my book, that makes her more of an "artist" and less of an "entertainer" although she is both. What a great antidote for all the mindless, bubble-gum music we get bombarded with most days!
Free Music Review: Love some, others...not so much Hit: 3 StarsWhen I first picked up the album I listened to the acoustic one first (there are 2 discs of the same songs... one acoustic). Nothing grabbed be. I was sad as I so anticipated new non-reggae from one of my favorite all-time artists.
As I was fortunate enough to see her in concert this fall, I figured she'd be doing mostly new stuff so I made myself keep listening to it. The acoustic CD is still too much of a sleeper for me but serveral tracks from the other cd have majorly grown on me. Every song is based on The Bible, some word-for-word... don't let that steer you away. "If You Had A Vineyard" was the first one that got me. The "Whomsoever Dwells." It has a hot beat and it's the closest to the all-out yelling Sinead we've had in awhile. "Something Beautiful" is cute. The one I can't handle is "Watcher Of Men." Holy depressing... and not in a good way.
Free Music Review: Music better than we deserve Hit: 5 StarsIf you are like me, you are looking for great CDs to put in your player that will DO something.
Look no further. "Theology" is a powerhouse of music, uncompromising, sublime and strong. It's about God, and I'm an atheist. But there is no question about the quality. It's too good. After the first few listens you are sucked in, and the longing of the human existence has been given voice by one of the most talented musicians of our time.
It just blows away all the nonsense that's out there. If I could take Sinead to an expensive dinner and give her a big kiss I would. Just for this.
