Free Music Review: Ailyn Fantastica!!!!

This is my first Sirenia album. I bought it because I like Ailyn's vocals. This album is great. Every song on it is awesome. It's hard, heavy, dark, and beautiful at the same time. A nice balance.
What I really enjoy about is that it has nice symphonic arrangements in certain areas, but they never over power the musics hard sound. Some other bands in the genre let the symphonic sounds over power a song, and I think that detracts from the songs heaviness, darkness, and hardness. Sirenia does not allow that to happen here. The bass and drums always bring your focus back to the hard and fast nature of the music after a nice melodic classical interlude or choir section. But the point is not the classical interlude or choir section. They're just a beautiful break in the song then it's right back to a nice hard rhythm.
I really like Ailyn's vocals. They're great. That's ultimately why I decided to buy the album. And she's freaking hot! Anyway, other reviewers bashed the harsh male vocals. I thought they were great. They were a nice complement to Ailyn's beautiful voice. The reason is is that some of the songs go in a very hard direction and they need heavier vocals is parts to get the job done. Ailyn's great, but she can't sell the hardness with her beautiful voice. The music needs a masculine voice to sell the hardness, then it returns to Ailyn's beautiful lead vocals. I just think of it as Ailyn is there to give the music and the band a beautiful touch, and Morten does all the dirty work that a lady should not do. I think it works really well. It's an interesting dynamic. This is one of my favorite albums.
13th Floor Poster
2009 release from the Norwegian Metal band led by former Tristania vocalist/guitarist Morten Veland. In 2006 Sirenia released Nine Destinies And A Downfall which turned out to sound more powerful and heavier than its two predecessors. The album gained the band access to a broader audience. The 13th Floor is the logical continuation of what the band did in the past years and will definitely take Sirenia to the next level, that is for sure!
