This soundtrack will really only be of value to you if you've seen the movie. Granted, its a tad corny, but who doesnt love a feel good story about inter city kids finding themselves thru music? I still get a little misty when i hear "O Happy Day", "Joyful, Joyful" and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow". And, of course, who doesnt love Lauryn Hill? Dare I say no one? Sure Whoopie can butcher a perfectly good song at times, but if you listen and reflect upon the movie, it wont really matter. I thought this CD was great. The gospel songs are the best ones on the CD, but the tracks seem to have been accelerated, compared to the ones in the movie. That's what disappointed me, because it takes away some of the spiritual side of the songs, but it is still worth buying. Just don't expect it to be exactly like the movie!Free Music Review: Soulful

Do not listen to Amazon.com's review of this CD. You will be deprived of a great collection of soulful songs from the cast, especially their version of Oh Happy Day. And this contains one of the first available recordings of Lauryn Hill, who was also in the movie as an angsty teenager. Buy the CD and the DVD and enjoy.Free Music Review: inspiration with humor

Whoopi and the cast give a realistic performance with spiritual humor and compassion. The music reflects the setting of the movie and the kids who live in it.
