What does the word 'lift' really mean? Well, there are various definitions out there. For example:
-to make audible or louder (i.e. Ken's vocals)
-the act of lifting, raising, or rising: the lift of a hand (i.e. Mark playing the drums)
-a feeling of exaltation or uplift (Ryan's guitar solos)
-any device used to lift or elevate (i.e. Jett's arms)
-Golf-to pick up (the ball), as to move it from an unplayable lie (i.e. Drew's hobby)
-a rise or elevation of ground (i.e. a stage)
-a feeling of exaltation or uplift (i.e. concerts)
-a ride on a tour bus (i.e. the Ultimate road trip)
-to rise to view above the horizon when approached, as land seen from the sea (i.e. The Rock Boat)
-See ski lift (Or see The Rock Slope)
-airlift (i.e. Swan Diving)
-to rise to view above the horizon when approached (i.e. Sunsets)
Although to me...'Lift' is a way to Surrender all my troubles and just Lay them Down, because sometimes the World Inside My Head just gets to be too much sometimes that I want to be Another Me. I want to choose something better. However, I realized that I need to Hold On to the little things...the important things...such as...treasuring those precious moments with those I love (for example, giving a hug to Erin) and always living In The Moment. Looking back on the past memories when I was Green and new to the world, I remember the days that I was a Dreamer. The days when I tried to catch the Fireflies in my jar on that late summer night. Those were the good ole days. But now, I try not to dwell on my dreams. Instead, I'd try to take my time and put those dreams into motion, such as helping a stranger in need and offering them a lending ear, just to let them know that if they need me I Will Come Through. Sometimes, it's the little things...Just What they Needed to get through the day. Even though it is All About The Love, more importantly, it's about putting others before yourself and finding a way to 'Lift' their spirits.
No matter what the definition may be, "Lift" has truly found a secure spot in my heart. Sister Hazel has found a way to make us 'think' once again...from past memories, childhood dreams, and lost loves to new begginnings and the future. This time around, their songs are deeper...their lyrics stronger...and their music finely tuned. 'Lift' just makes you tap your feet, sing along, and think about the important things. It's therapy for any soul.
If you want to chase something better, then run out to your nearest store, and pick up your piece of fresh air. You won't regret it.
