Free Music Notes for Six Feet UnderFree Music Review: Great soundtrack but not quite perfect Hit: 4 Stars
I can't claim I have ever seen the show since I don't have HBO but when I saw the tracklist on the back of the cd packaging, I was impressed with how diversified this soundtrack is. It reminded me of the diviersity found on the "Trainspotting" soundtrack. I wish soundtracks in general were diversified as "Trainspotting" and "Six Feet Under". The songs on "Six Feet Under" apparently represent the mood of each scene in the tv series. I adore the title theme. It is a delicate, haunting number that sends chills down my spine like the theme to "Pyscho". Now normally I love PJ Harvey but "One Time Too Many" is by far not my favorite song by her. The songs that I did find compelling were Lamb's "Heaven", Stereo MC's "Deep Down & Dirty", Peggy Lee's "I Love Being Here With You", The Beta band's "Squares" and Craig Armstrong's "Lets Go Out Tonight". Those are the strongest tracks on this cd I thought. The remixes of the theme song were compelling. I thought the "Rae & Christian remix" was a better than the Photek remix. I liked The Dandy Warhols' "Bohemian Like You" but not enough to add it to my list of favorite songs. I wasn't too impressed with Shuggie Otis. "Inspiration Information" is one of the few weaker tracks in my opinion. Regardless of its flaws, the soundtrack to "Six Feet Under" is a perfect example of why soundtracks should be diversified rather than clumping artists and bands of the same genre...its boring if you do.
Free Music Review: Great CD But Song Missing! Hit: 4 Stars
I just bought the cd the other day out of pure excitement, only to find out that one of the songs that I thought was here is in fact missing. Anyone reading this please help.I don't know the name of this particular song nor the name of it's artist. It's an old 70's song and was EXTREMELY popular when it was originally released. This song was playing at the end of the last episode of season 3. When Nate had just burried his wife He took her body Up on a mountain and buried her there The song started playing as he started remembering stuff and then he started to cry. It has the line "IN YOUR EYES" in the Chorus. I don't believe that is the name of the song because I have searched high and low and listened to several samples of songs with "IN YOUR EYES" in the title and have had no luck. So please help if anyone reads this and knows what song I am talking about. Now back to the cd. Excellent! Excellent, Excellent! Highly recommended. Would have given it 5 stars if the song I am looking for was included.
Free Music Review: Creepy Newman music Hit: 4 Stars
Noted for its main theme by Thomas Newman, this CD also features music used on the show. Some of the selections are throwaways, but some (like the hidden Julie London track) are keepers. Strictly for fans of the show, Thomas Newman and soundtracks in general.
Free Music Review: Thomas Newman is DA MAN while others add nice mix. Hit: 4 Stars
The main theme, by Thomas Newman, was enough to make me buy the cd. There are also two nice mixes featuring the same theme. I also enjoyed the other artists. This cd is certainly worth the price. BUY IT TODAY!!!
Free Music Review: Solid, but it's not really what I was hoping for... Hit: 3 Stars
I'm probably not qualified enough to give valid pointers for this CD, since I bought the soundtrack just to obtain one track in particular: Rae&Christian's remix of the Thomas Newman title theme, which I first heard on the Internet. Being an avid fan of both the show and electronic music in general, I instantly fell in love with the track. Rae&Christian faithfully maintain the original composition's mood, while giving the track a vaster enveloping quality. Down-tempo tribal drum beat plods along with the bass line, building up to the emotional oboe solo, only to be interrupted by a sample from the show questioning meanings of life and death. ...I wish if they had included some of the Richard Marvin's orchestral scores on the soundtrack. Despite including artists such as Lamb, The Beta Band, and Zero 7, most of the track selections just seem too conventional. The CD includes way too many classic rock songs, as these tracks don't convey the show's overall feeling too well, nor are they that interesting to listen. The album as a whole doesn't flow too well and some tracks like "Mis Dos Pequenas" and Julie London's "Yummy Yummy Yummy" gives me a horrible headache.
