A beautiful CD from start to finish. Amazing vocals. Stirring music. A must have for melodic, techno-ish, female vocals.

Free Music Review: impressive and engaging debut
Hit: 4 Stars

Not only did Justin Elswick collaborate with 11 of the finest female vocalists in the modern world of electronica, he also did it WELL. And if that's not enough, the fantastic album artwork (kudos to Brian Son) is among the best I've ever seen. Justin, his sound engineer and the vocalists are fantastic. There is a definite vibe throughout all of the songs - multilayered, sweeping electronica with quirky sound effects and beautifully unpredictable chord changes. The album gets a little bland (for me) towards the middle but then 'Afterthoughts' begins playing and it's like the clouds have parted. Besides Afterthoughts, major highlights for me include Nicola Hitchcock's track 'You Did a Good Thing' (probably my favorite piece on the album), Kristy Thirsk's 'Sweet Angel' and of course the song which defines Sleepthief the best: 'Eurydice' featuring Jody Quine, one of the most beautifully sad pieces of music I've heard in some time. Oh! and I can't forget Kirsty Hawkshaw's take on the Duran Duran classic 'Chauffeur' - so catchy and Kirsty never disappoints. Sleepthief already has a rapidly growing fanbase and Justin seems to have a magical appeal - all the vocalists are raving about him in interviews! This is GOOD STUFF. I'm really excited to see where this project will go in the future...

Free Music Review: good for fans of female-fronted electronica
Hit: 4 Stars

i am a longtime fan of female fronted electronica so i was looking forward to this when i heard kirsty hawkshaw and kyoko baertsoen would be on it. needless to say i like it. the vocals are really beautiful, and the music has lovely textures. however it is a little uneven, and some songs seem out of place like 'nightjar' and 'fire from heaven'. not the singer's fault because they are only singing their styles. the songs just don't work with this cd. everything else works really well and it's a good debut that sounds like they tried to fit too much on one disc. worth buying though.
