Free Music Review: Great Album! Much Better Than Vol. 3!
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first purchased this album I was a bit skeptical because I did not like the direction that Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses took, and I did not really like the Stone Sour album Come (What) Ever May that came out a couple years ago, so I was under a slight impression that Slipknot maybe was one of those bands on a steep decline after Iowa. Thankfully once I listened to this whole album I realized that I was wrong, this album starts off with a couple blistering tracks, execute the intro, which is really cool. And then Gematria(The Killing Name) which is one of the heaviest and strongest tracks on the album, the chorus is just fu**ing brutal and this song reminds me more of Iowa than Vol. 3, which I was so glad to discover. Iowa was a monster metal album in my opinion, but anyways track 3 Sulfur starts off a bit Stone-Sourish, but it develops into a total Slipknot song, and ends with a killer breakdown towards the end of the song, some cool music and vocals to this track. Track 4 Psychosocial is the first single of the album, and is one of the best tracks on the album, the chorus is very melodic and Corey shows his vocal abilities, but the verses and breakdowns are VERY heavy, and this song is just awesome overall. Track 5 Dead Memories is a slower softer Slipknot song, kind of like Stone Sour, but much, much better than anything from Stone Sour, I really love the sound and lyrics to this song, the lyrics will really hit home with many fans. Track 6 Vendetta is a really cool song, and the end chant is great, "Lets pretend were not at the end, pretend, that we have nothing left, are you ready for the time of your life?!" Track 7 Butchers Hook sounds like Slipknot between 99' and 01' and this song just builds and builds to the end, and as another customer said "it may be the most coherent song on the whole album." Track 8 Gehenna is a really really dark and slow very heavy song, Corey sounds maniachal on this one. Track 10 This Cold Black is definitely one of my favorites and again sounds like Iowa-era Slipknot, this one truly kills it. Track 11 Wherein Lies Continue kind of continues along with This Cold Black, it is very heavy and Corey screams his fu**ing brains out, this song is brutal and heavy and fu**ing great. Track 11 Snuff is the soft ballad of the album, kind of like some of the slow Stone Sour songs, but this song is very good, Coreys voice is amazing the range that he has, this is a great dark-ballad. Track 12 and the final track All Hope Is Gone is another very heavy one, and the lyrics are very cool, Corey depicts the world as it pretty much is dark, depressing, and sad. Overall, this album is much, much stronger than Vol. 3 and it marks the return of Slipknot in my estimation. Highly highly recommended to all Slipknot fans of all eras, and also highly recommended to all metal and hard rock fans. Check it out fu**ers, stay (sic) maggots!

Free Music Review: Are you joking?
Hit: 5 Stars

I think some people are complete idiots in this world! Just listen to these reviews, "It's not s/t or Iowa" "It sounds like stone sour." Come on people, give it a rest! I really hate reading these reviews because I hate to have to listen to stupid people. First of all, it is not stone sour pt. 2 as some idiot said. There are only 2 people from stone sour in this band, which I might add if anyone is to blame for wanting a stone sour sound, its slipknot them selves because they wanted to recruit Cory Taylor. they took him from his roots and now he is singing the way that he has always felt comfortable singing like. Its not degrading, it maturing. You forget, there are 7 other people in the band besides the 2 from stone sour, and they are all dictating in which direction they want to go and the way they want to sound. And together ALL 9 MEMBERS have decided this is the sound they want and what they want to do! So to say this is stone sour pt. 2 is absolutely ridiculous and insane. This is Slipknot and this is how Slipknot wants to sound. And to my next point, the sound they have chosen is a sound of maturing. Are you all living in '99? Did you really expect for all their albums to sound the same? Cause if you did, your one of the stupid people I hate! Almost all bands have changed there sound a little while experimenting and maturing together as individuals and as band members and they all have gone through there period where people where like whoa, that is nothing like their first album! And that is great! Its means they are maturing. Exploring different aspects of their band and their sound. I'm glad slipknot is changing. It shows a growth in their abilities as a band and as individuals. And they do it in such a great way with out "selling out." Its a beautifully written CD and for anyone who is not stupid enough to believe thing will never change will enjoy this CD. This is for people who can appreciate a maturing musical band, not a band stuck in a shock rock roll for America. For those of you who cant get past the fact the band is growing and moving forward while you are stuck in the path, that is actually a good thing. Don't ever buy a slipknot CD again and don't buy tickets to their shows again. You will just be one more idiot I don't have to look past while enjoying their music!

Free Music Review: Going for broke
Hit: 5 Stars

After the breakup rumors which surrounded the band while touring in support of Vol. 3, people assumed that Slipknot were finished. Wasn't that the assumption after Iowa? People tried to write them off, and they failed. Here they are 4 years later with a new album, All Hope Is Gone. Produced by Dave Fortman (Evanescence, Mudvayne), and mixed by Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Trivium, Chimaira), the album features a lot of melodies like on Vol. 3, but it also manages to retain the heaviness of Iowa. If you felt that Vol. 3 was more of a Stone Sour record than a Slipknot record, you shouldn't be turned off by this. Comparing Slipknot and Stone Sour is like comparing apples and oranges. They may feature two of the same members, but they play different music. Remember, this is Slipknot. It's hard to confuse the two bands.

The special edition is worthy if you feel like shelling out a few extra bucks. It's basically a cd/dvd set housed in a nice big digipak. Careful when you open it up, there is no compartment to keep the booklet in. It'll fall right out. From what I understand, the booklet contains expanded artwork. It's a thick booklet, trust me. Pictures aplenty. You get three bonus tracks: 1 song leftover from the All Hope Is Gone sessions, a remix for Vermilion pt. 2, and a previously unreleased track called Til We Die. The DVD is something to watch. Expect it to be a continuation of Voliminal as it was filmed by Shawn Crahan, and it's in that style, however, you actually get some nice footage of the band in the studio. Band members faces are visible instead of blurred out, but it's not like there's any mystery as to what they look like especially if you've seen the interviews on the Voliminal dvd.

No question about it, Slipknot is back. Bring on the chaos.

Free Music Review: Awesome
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a fan of the band since the beginning, and this is arguably their best album even if it's not my favorite. It's disappointing to see people who call themselves fans still can't appreciate it when every single song on the album isn't a driving horror film set to music; part of the appeal of Slipknot is that they aren't- and never have been- just another one-dimensional screaming thrash band.

Their strength is in the emotional contrast during their songs, and All Hope Is Gone hits on those strengths perfectly in my opinion... they're one of the only bands still releasing quality music that puts out an entire album that you want to listen to sequentially rather than just pulling a track here and there and ditching the chaff. Lyrically their songs are as powerful without the pounding drums and power chords, and it complements the album by making it listenable without wearing you down by the end.

They've taken a bit of a new direction, and it's fresh and a good listen. There's plenty on the album for people looking for old school Slipknot (Gematria and Psychosocial for sure) and some new stuff like Gehenna and Dead Memories that will bring about and ease in new fans that may have been intimidated or turned off by the smashmouth metal earlier on the album.

The special edition of the disc is worth the extra money, despite a lackluster Vermilion pt.2 remix. 'Til We Die is the haunting closer that's been a staple of all of Slipknot's albums, I wouldn't pass it up.

Free Music Review: Amazing Album, New Direction???
Hit: 5 Stars

Before this album I was only a mild fan of Slipknot. A friend of mine bought me this and said I had to listen to all of it. I was amazed! I was so impressed I went to my first Slipknot Concert this past May and was blown away even more. These guys are amazing and even better live. After the concert I had to buy all the other albums. Let me say that I love all of their albums so I recommend to just buy them all if you haven't already. This one stood out though. Yes a good few of these songs are slower and not as heavy as one would expect but they show off Cory Taylor's range with his voice and after listening two or three times. I find myself enjoying those slower songs as much as Psychosocail. It might be a new direction for the band and I hope they keep the heavy thrash that they have always had, but I still enjoyed this album. To every slipknot fan, I say buy it and give it at least 2 listens before you reserve judgment. and for those like I was who only liked one or two songs before. This is worth the purchase, and if it doesn't make you a fan check your pulse.

However, just to make you aware before you buy, the DVD is nothing special. It is about a half hour of just random behind the scenes stuff that looks like it was shot by different band members, but I always have to buy the special edition. So if you can live without it, I would just buy the album.
