I'm a fairly new Slipknot fan. I started with their live album and then worked my way backwards. Then I listened to All Hope is Gone and now I'm sold. I've noticed that with each album, Slipknot seemed to grow musically and lyrically. It's only so many times you can hear double bass drumming, heavily distorted guitars, and screaming lines before it gets worn out. I think All Hope is Gone has shown Slipknot's maturation into a metal band that can be lyrical, melodic and heavy at the same time. At first listen, I loved the album, but I thought to myself that the hardcore maggots were gonna hate it. If they do, then they really aren't true music fans. If you love a group, you can respect when they try to do something new and different. You may not always agree with the musical direction, but you can at least be appreciative of a band's willingness to try something different.
Overall, a great album!

Straight up! My friend is the biggest maggot of life and when I heard All hope is gone I thought this album was going to suck a serious one.. A fan of Sub. Verses 3, I was skeptical, I heard it from TOP TO BOTTOM and THIS ALBUM IS CRAZY!!
FOR SURE you have to get used to this album, you CANNOT judge this album on first listen or first day for that matter, you have to get used to the concept of EVERY song and you have to let it grow on you for you to REALLY appreciate the work of art that Slipknot has created.. and the truth of the matter is the best songs on this album are the ones i didn't expect!!!

the only thing that "vol.3" lacked was its aggressiveness. "all hope is gone" brings that back to the table. songs like "gematria" and "vendetta" are by far the heaviest songs you're gonna hear from the band."snuff" is a great acoustic while "gehenna" is sludgy and moody. "psychosocial" is pure classic slipknot while "sulfur" is very stone sour esque. what makes this album better than "vol.3" is that the band is much more tighter. this time around when it came to making the record, they were much more focused than on "vol.3" (if you recall, during the making of vol.3 rick had to sit all the members down and get them to get along because none of them weren't speaking to one another) and got right to buisness. dave fortman did a great job with the production on this album. i didn't think that he'd do as good as rick..but he did. a disasterpiece they have made once again.Free Music Review: Are you sure you can handle the 'Knot??

Alright, so I became a fan of Slipknot right after the Subliminal Verses, and let me tell you I loved every CD before that too. I even thought their first album, MFKR was interesting (However the original few copies were worth like $600!). Anyway, at first, I didn't favor too much of this album, but like every other Slipknot album, I listened to it more and began to like it more. They definitely threw in some Stone Sour, Subliminal Verses, and even their older lyrical styles Iowa and their self-titled album. Let me tell you, it is awesome, although I didn't care for Vermilion pt. 2. My favorites include:
Gematria (the killing name)
Sulfur
Psychosocial
Vendetta
This Cold Black
All Hope is Gone
And let me tell you, the opener and closer were great, so I guess you could say they wrote it kind of like an essay!

well i only want to say that probably this album is gonna be the best rock/metal album of the year , i like it so much, this album contains
very good hard songs, balads,bonos song, and SOLOS, the dvd is not what expect its so short and I think that it could been better with a couple live songs.
slipknot all hope is gone and metallica death magnetic the best rock/metal albums of the year i think.
